    Default Opinions RT vs RTi

    Hello,

I wanted to get some feedback and see if anyone had upgraded their RT's to RTi's. Is it worth the $? In your opinion, what was the upside/difference between the 2 models?

Thanks for any input, it is appreciated!

I rebuilt my 55 to 55i's(surround duty) so they matched my i series in the front. I played them and tested in front for a comparison and to be honest I did not hear a difference. The only advantage was that now all the speakers match... so one less thing to stress over;)

Thanks Henry, I always appreciate your input. I would have to do all of my speakers, so this would be quite an endeavor. So in your opinion, cost/benefit ratio is low?

    Have a great weekend- Greg

The RTi's have the really cool looking blue metalic driver... I've owned both and couldn't hear the diff. Could just be my ears though...

I still miss my 55's. I wounder why Polk won't replace that line?

    Because the 55 didnt sell......

The RT** line, depends on which one you are talking about...

    There are two RT lines

    RT3, 5, 7, etc

    RT35, RT25, RT55, etc

The RT 3, 5 use a different tweeter use a different tweeter than the rest of the line (3, 5 use a Polymer, the rest of that line uses a Tri-Lam). There are VERY noticeable differences in the polymer and the Tri-Lam. To me the tri-lam dosnt hold AS MUCH detail as the Polymer in the snare, cymbal, and acoustic guitar region. Just my opinion.

THe RT25, 35, 55 to the 25i, 35i, 55i -- There are woofer and crossover/cabinet changes I believe. The tweeters are relatively the same, therefore should sound pretty similar. I think both series use Tri-Lams. I could be wrong, Polk dosnt really provide any information on them, and were before I got into this hobby.

The RT25i, 35i, 55i vs the RTi28, RTi38, etc -- I believe the differences are HUGE. ESPECIALLY in the high end. This is my opinion only, but the silk loses alot of detail in comparison of the tri-lam. It sounds overly bright, harsh and muffled in comparison. Again, just my opinion. The differences are huge.

The RTi4, RTi6, etc vs the RTi28, RTi38, etc -- The differences are the same as above. The new line comes back with the detail in the high end. Not as harsh, better mids/soundstage. Again, all my opinion.

The RTi4, RTi6 line seems to trait back to the first RT line with the 3 and 5. With the Polymer tweeters. Which is no surprise as the new line uses Silk/Polymer.

My favorite RT line by far is the first RT line, as I own the 5 and I like its sound pretty much over the rest.

    Just my take.

Each line sounds different, for better or worse is up to you.

You got that backward bucko.... I called Ken and ordered all my parts on Kens reccomendation thus Polk sent me 2 new tweeters and a crossovers for my pair of 55i's.

I did not hear a HUGE difference PERIOD.

Greg the cost benefit ratio is way low IMHO. BTW hows that SVS?:D If you posted somewhere I'm afraid I missed it.

Hi, I thought I would add my two cents as in the RT55 thread.
I have a pair of RT2000i in the rear and also some RT55i's, I bought these at the time of the change over between the two 'series' and had both at home at the same time. I can say that there was a big difference, from memory the crossover freq was brought down in the RT..i range but I clearly remember that the rt..i series was much better in the imaging and soundstaging department, they really 'opened up' with the lower cross over frequency, but as I have always thought and said, if it sounds good to you that is all that matters. I hope this helps in some small way.
    Cheers
    Brody:)
