Question About Hk 7200

the HK 7200 has a a bus plug on the back of it and it is for an eternet cable connection to the internet or for controling other in home elecronics and so on.

here is my question:

If i hook up my HK 7200 to my router(hard wired) can i pull music off of my computer to play it threw my HK.

some people say i can if i know how to do it and some say no not unless you have a sound card in your computer with a audio out put on it. what i do not understand about is if i need an audio output on my pc to do this where would i plug it into. i have the manual on the avr 7200 and no where does it say anything about it.if some one out here knows how to do it please inform me on how to do it.

I have AVR7200 too. It can only decode MP3 files if received digitally (PMC format). That means you must connect your sound card's digital output port (S/P-DIF?), if any, to one of your receiver's digital inputs. I don't think it pulls MP3's off of your computer, you must feed it. At least that's what I gathered from the manual. I just bought AVR7200 and haven't experimented it much yet. (ONKYO TX-NR801 on the other hand does pull off MP3's or other streaming media from your computer by becoming a part of your home network).

I will try to play a CD full of MP3 songs in it on my DVD player and connect it to AVR through digital coax port. I am expecting to see words MP3 on AVR's display. I'll let you know tomorrow if it works. Basically, with this type of connection, you leave the decoding to AVR than to your computer or other MP3 player.

won't the DVD player decode the MP3 then? not the receiver?

if you are using the SPDIF out on a sound card I don't think the receiver is doing any MP3 decoding. I have an ancient AIWA receiver hooked up to the SPDIF digital out on my sound card and it works, I'm positive the receiver isn't decoding the MP3, it doesn't even do DTS.

I guess it depends on what is being sent on the digital output port. Anything you send digitally must be decoded by the receiver so that it will be converted to analog signals. Regular music CD content is also digital and, of course, all receivers with digital input must be capable of decoding music CDs. SPDIF is simply a transmit protocol which can send any digital content regardless of its format. If it transmits MP3s in their native format, it is now receiver's job to decode it.

I don't know if my cheap DVD player will send the digital content untouched through its digital coax port, or first will it convert to music CD format and then send it (you know, for compatibility reasons). I'm hoping to see the former though.
