Okay, I recently had Dish TV installed. Got the deal w/ the receivers and "FREE" installation, blah blah.

Of course the install is completely shabby. Like some Vo-Tech students did it. They didn't even put in a ground. The only saving grace is I get the receivers free, 'cause the rest has to be redone, COMPLETELY.

a couple of questions:

1 - What would be the best direct burial cable to get?

2 - what effect will a long run (250 ft) have on the the signal and should I put in an amplifier?

3 - Will height of the dish have an effect on reception?

I may be a little anal, but when I do something I wanna do it the RIGHT WAY.

If any one has any input I'd greatly appreciate it.

What would be the best direct burial cable to get?

Conduit is the best route,burial cable does last longer then standard rg6.Use Liberity or Belden.

Runs over 100 feet lose signal strength.You need a Amp to continue the signal with runs that long.Why are the runs so long and why do you need burail cable?Spawn makes high quality dss amps designed for Hd and standard dss.I would see a professional for a professional Install.

Will height of the dish have an effect on reception?

Depending where you live,the signal must reach the dish.Height matters when there is something in the way of the signal.

If you never did a dss Install before,it's not that hard once you know what to do.

I don't think running 250 feet is a good Idea.I do very large homes and try to avoid long runs as much as possible.It happens but with the correct gear you can achive good signal strength.

Call 1-800-333-DISH and tell the CSR that the installation is hosed. Make sure you tell them about the lack of a grounding block/improper ground. They'll make it right.
