    Default amp selection

so i need some help deciding on an amp. i have a choice between three amps that i can get pretty cheep: the polk c300.2, the c400.2, and the c500.1. which would be best to power two subs? which would be best to power 1 sub? the subs would be pretty powerful, around 500 watts RMS. thanks

none of those amps will power 2 500 watt subs
    although
    TWO 300.2 will do great
    (one to each sub)

    so the 300 x 2 would be better than the 500 x 1?

if you are asking will a 300.2 match up better with ONE 500 watt 4 ohm sub, then yes, it will be better than the 500.1

i don't understand why the 300.2 would be better than the 500. isn't the 300 less powerful? can you please educate me?

    the 500.1 produces 350 WRMS x1 Ch @ 4 Ohms, that number rising to 500 WRMS x 1 Ch @ 2 Ohms. bridged, the 300.2 does 550 WRMS x 1 Ch @ 4 Ohms.

clearly, for a single sub of 4 ohms, the 300.2 puts out 200 Watts more power.

for two 4-ohm SVC subs, you can give them each their own 300.2, or you can wire them in parallel to 2 Ohms, give that to a 500.1, which then produces a total of 500 Watts, divided into the two subs gives 250 each.

for one sub, the 300.2 is cheaper and more powerful. it simply does not function with two standard subs. if the ones you're talking about aren't 4-ohm single voice coil subs, please share.
