Pioneer 563-A purple

I noticed a really obnoxious issue with my pioneer 563-A when connected through component video the picture looks awesome, except from left side of the tv to about an inch in there is a noticable purple hue present. Could this be the cables I have? (cheap rca's) Or is this something that people have seen in the dvd player regardless of the cables being used? It's only noticeable when something dark is on that part of the screen, nevertheless my eyes have become so attuned from working at Circuit City that it's bothering me to no end.

PS If you never noticed it before and now you do, I'm truly sorry, I'm contemplating having to buy a new dvd player so I don't have to deal with the purple. If it's any help I have a Sharp 27 inch flat screen analog tv.

Do you have now, or have you had in the past, a speaker sitting next to your TV? If you do or have, it could be the magnet from the speaker causing the purple hue.

If this is the case, you'd need to degauss the TV.

I wish that were the case, but the problem only exists when the dvd player is connected through component video cables. I just tested some different cables and it didn't fix the problem, so either it's the dvd player or the component input jack on my tv. I'm starting to wish I had picked up that extended warranty when i had the chance.

Ok. So you've eliminated the possibility of magnetic interference from a speaker. Check.

You've swapped cables, and still the hue remains. Not a cable issue. Check.

You've narrowed the problem to either the DVD player or your TV's inputs. Can you hook up the DVD player to another TV, yours or a friends to test? Can you get ahold of another DVD player to test your TV?

If I were a betting man, I'd bet the problem is the DVD player. Either way, you should be able to narrow the problem down by testing each unit by itself with other equipment.

Indeed, now the only problem becomes finding another tv in this house that has component inputs or buying another dvd player from circuitcity and testing that one on my tv. Bah, I hate troubleshooting.

I own this player and did a great deal of research before buying it and never came across that issue.

If you end up narrowing it to your DVD player, it's not a function of the unit itself, you just have a defective unit...

You purchased the DVD player from CC? Take it in to CC and have them hook it up to one of the display models. They should agree to do this. What's the harm?

If the purple hue is still there, problem is DVD player.

If hue is gone, TV no good.

Of course, this all depends on CC cooperating with you on this test. If they don't, try a speciallty shop, they seems to be more willing to do stuff like this.

No, it's my tv which is much worse than it being the dvd player. Damnitall.
