    Default Speaker Specialists Back

Announcing the return of super long time good guys, Bob McG and Larry Chanin!

I arrived here in Sep 99. Bob and his brother Mike were (and still are) the SDA specialists, and may have even been founding Polk Forum members. Both have excellent sound equipment, in a lot of different rooms.

Larry has been around at least as long as I, and also has a pretty good handle on why things happen in the sonic world. He was also propping up the old McG Bros. SDA website while Bob and Mike were pre-occupied.

    Today's a good day.

    Thumbs up Welcome back.

I still am curious as to what happened with that Carver amp that made it's way from the repair shop to a pawn shop.

LOL! (in the ironic way) That's a good question.

Speaking of the McGowan Bros, I was just listening to Deep Forest's made in japan on my SDA's this evening. :D It is a truly spacious CD.

    Hi All,

George is being too kind. George and the McG Brothers have forgotten more about audio than I will ever know!!

You can tell that George is exagerating when he says that I've been around as least as long as he has. NOBODY has been around as long as he has!!!;)

    Just kidding George.:D

    Regards,

    Larry

Hi Larry, I don't remember seeing you hear since I came on board but welcome back anyway. I was wondering how you made that impressive layout drawing of your room? That looks to have taken some effert and sure.

    Hi Dave,

I used Microsoft Visio to do the graphics. The software is fairly intuitive. It uses templates in which you drag and drop standard shapes. You can also cut and paste other images.

Here's some concept drawings of my new home theater that's under construction in which I used Visio. You can see that I've pasted my Polk speakers into the graphics.

    Default Thanks guys !

I just got back from down state and was popping into the Forums for a couple of minutes... and I see a very generous welcome back in here from George and others. You guys are too much! I'm not sure how worthy I am, but it's greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Wow! That Carver amp!!! What an ordeal and a half!

    Very long story shortened:

    1) Yes, as you recall, Mr. Anderson (Formerly of Blue Tango Productions through carverrepair.com) pawned the amp instead of repairing it. Start of nightmere.

    2) It was purchased by another individual who bought it just to sell on eBay and make some money on it. If he had sold it, the "new owner" would have been in for a surprise! (Claimed he never plugged it in and didn't know it needed to be repaired.)

    3) It was spotted on eBay by a sharp-eyed member of this forum who suspected it was mine because it was customized with a set of Vampire Wire's Gold Binding Posts. (Somewhat of a giveaway.)

    4) The police confirmed it to be mine by the serial number in the filed report.

    5) The police informed the person in possesion of the amp of the situation and said it was to be returned to me. (Trying to be nice about it.)

    6) Individual said he would send it to me. (I gladly volunteered to pay shipping & insurance.)

    7) Individual got to thinking and decided he'd ship the amp only if I paid him back half the money he spent on it plus shipping! (Lets see. I paid for it when I bought it. I paid ship/ins to Washington state. I paid $189.00 to have amp repaired and shipped back. It was pawned instead. I'm offering to pay ship/ins back to me again. Now I have to buy it from the guy?

    8) Nightmere part two starts.... round and round with the guy...

    9) Back to police....

    10) Indvidual re-thinks his "master plan" and ships the amp back to me as previously agreed. (In possesion of stolen property if push comes to shove.)

    11) I finally get amp back after what? Maybe eight months after sending it to be repaired. But, not only is amp not repaired but now the volume knob is dangling off the front. This amp was in mint, like new condition when it left me. It came back with a collection of scratches and the broken knob. Nice. Still remains in the same condition.

"Deep Forest" Thanks Wes, for the wake-up. I'll have to give it spin myself soon.

Hey Larry, When you gonna start selling tickets buddy?
