Crazy 10 AWG Shotgun Bi-Wire Cable!!

Here is some cable I found here at work. This stuff is 10-4 rubber insulated cable. We use it here at work to wire Die Casting machines. The foundry is a very dirty, oily place with metal chips flying & all kinds of lubricants and high temperature materials. Thus, the machines are wired with very durable wire.

SOOOO, DIY'er that I am, I could not resist building some speaker cable with this stuff. The conductors are 10 AWG. I'm going to build a Shotgun style, bi-wire cable with it.

When I get the cables built, I'll post some pics of the completed cable, as well as some initial listening impressions. Enjoy....

Serious speaker-python there. I work in a communications electronics warehouse, you would drewl over the 6awg OFC I have in here.

Too darn funny-I made a 14/4 equivalent just two days ago. Couldn't tell a bit of difference between it and a Monster Z1 at about one fifth the price.

Shoot G-Mo, that stuff (the 6awg) is so damn stiff you'd need steel conduit to run it to your speakers.. Seriously!!

I wondered the same thing. In the pic, you can see the black & white conductors are twisted together. I'd say it is about 8 AWG.

Looking at samples here in my warehouse, it looks close to 8awg when 2 10's are combined.

Try, et al, whenever two cables are combined the resulting cross sectional area is doubled and the gauge equivalent is three numbers lower, e.g. two 10ga=7ga. Of course, this is far heavier than needed, unless the run is well over 100 feet, but experiment.

Thanks. I figured someone knew the answer to that. As far as being overkill, oh well, it looks sweet.;)
