Room Corner Reflections --

My room is setup strange, but also the only real way to do it --

(Picture posted at bottom of post) -

Anyways, I sit basically in a corner listening to music, and the corner beside me kinda traps the higher frequencies in there and kinda gives off a blurred sound (for a lack of a better word) --

I was wondering if there is a way to eliminate this........

Any suggestions?

Why not put your sysytem on the long wall opposite the door? Move your bed lengthwise, w/the head of the bed against the "door" wall. Desk under the window...

I have towers as surrounds (or will shortly) --

And I can't hang a tower above my main door.......would have to build a HUGE shelf.....

Not to mention I would have to rip out the PVC I put on the wall and repaint my room...

I was thinking I could get a frame built and put 3 layers of egg crate in there and cover it with several layers of black cloth to cover it up and hang it in the corner...

never know. sometimes setups that look impossible sound great.

the crates are worth a try, pillows or cushions might be too(i assume the problem is one side traps(futon) and one side reflects(wall)).

humbly, i would try to experiment with alternate temporary placements to hear what your gear could sound like in less unpredictable situations to use as a benchmark.

what do you think of your set up with your desk chair placed in the sweetspot? one of the better upgrades i made was a comfortable executive type chair.

some music just sounds better further away while some has a magnetic attraction that draws me closer, sometimes it's easier or more comfortable to move/swivel my chair left or right a little than move my head. for music i want to tear apart, i listen there. after i get my fill of excellent listening, it doesn't bother me when i'm in other spots that aren't so great.

If I sit any closer -- LOL, I will be like 2 feet from the stereo. That would be strange.

The reflections come directly from the corner....

It sounds bout like it is taking the right speakers highs, amplifying them, then smearing them across the right side of the room...

This is VERY annoying at higher volumes....

The left side is practically transparent in its approach, dosnt real add - just plays.

I have had my system in many different positions throughout the past couple of years -- this is actually one of the better ones I've had...

It is very hard to put it anywhere else though I am afraid

The problem is, you have too much stereo (more specifically, speaker) for that small room. You should be running bookshelves only in a room that size. Large speakers thrive in large rooms, they need "breathing" room. The only way I can see a solution is to rearrange.

I'd agree with Steve. A complete rearrangement is necessary for you to get where you want to be. You need more room. You've now got a man-sized system in a boy-sized room, and the system seems to keep growing. Any chance you can move most of it to a basement? Annex territory when you run out of space.

The only way I can move is when I move into my own place.....

I could take my sister's room when she moves out - but I would have to strip more wallpaper and repaint it...BLAH (not doing THAT again) -

My room at my Dad's is signically larger -- but the way that room is laid out I actually have less room in that room than I do my room at home.

My room actually has pretty good acoustics - all considering. The only problem is the corner.........

Will have to try a few things, and if those don't work - I suppose I will have to try rearranging....

Echobusters makes an acoustic treatment panel to put in corners to reduce reflections. You can read about them here but they are expensive.:

I have a similar problem in my living room for the Home Theater Setup. High ceiling and a lot of reflections. This was going to be my next thing I tackle as well.

Pretty awesome huh? Now does it really work is the question. Worth a shot if you have some time; seems like a fun project and something cool to decorate a teenager's room like your own.
