The Thing is still one of the best horror movies of all time in my book. It had the classic scenes where the CGI was grainy, the bloody flowed like wine, and the stop-motion was awesome! They won't be able to make it better but, they had better be respectful of the original!

Long live Kurt Russel and his trusty flame-thrower!! :D

Actually that "original" was a remake of the original 1950's or 60's film, which I always thought was superior to the Kurt Russell remake.

1951, and it is a good one. But, I still favor the Kurt film.

The Thing in '51 was James Arnes first movie role. Remember him from the old TV series Gunsmoke. He played Marshal Dillion and in the Thing, he was the Thing. I was 9 at the time and it was one scary movie and in BW.

Where the CGI was grainy? WHAT CGI? John Carpenter's film used all practical effects. Hell, even that opening credit was done by setting fire to a garbage bag behind a smoke-filled backlit fish tank!

The Thing is seriously the shining example of why practical effects will always look more realistic than CGI. In my opinion, no computer has come close to accomplishing what Rick Baker did with the creature effects in that movie.

I picked up the BR on the zon a couple months back for 9.99. 11.49 right now, which is still a good deal, IMO.

I remember seeing this when it was first released in the theater. I tripped cuz it was the first movie I had seen with Kurt Russell, post Disney. This prequel looks interesting. Hope they do it justice.

    The BR rocks, btw.

So is the original cut of the 1977 Star Wars, imo, the perfect example of real world effects with no CGI.

To this day, I'm stiff confounded by the sfx of Thing and the original Alien.
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!
