The changes never end. Rumor has it that the "Greedo shoots first scene" still has him shooting first. That, at least, is some good news.

saw this a couple days ago. There is more than just that being added to the original trilogy. Ian McDermind replacing the actor who played the Emperor in TESB, Temura Morrison redubbing Boba Fett's lines, adding the imperial march music to A New Hope. These rumors seem from what I've read to be accurate but the DVD's have not been reviewed or released yet. It sounds so Lucas like so they are more than likely true. Redubbing Boba Fett is right up there with Greedo shooting first on the stupidity scale. Lucas is really screwing up some classic films. If Lucas wants to alter these movies I have an idea, remove the ridiculous Ewoks.

Why the heck is everyone so hard on these films? If Lucas wants to change them, he has every right to. They are, after all, his films. I'm in favor of in and all changes he makes to these movies, and I think most of them improve upon the overall story.

MSkeezer, I mean no offense, but what you are saying is complete bull****. When a film is produced, it is subject to the limitations of its era. Conversely, it is also subject to the approval/disapproval of the public. This is the nature of films. Granted, every so once in awhile, director's cuts come along that make a film better (Aliens comes to mind), however these usually incorporate footage that was ORIGINALLY SHOT for the film. Lucas is trying to "update" films that were not only revolutionary for their time, but also signified incredibly powerful and significant moments in most films lovers' lives. What he created belongs to all of us. I agree that he technically has the right to **** the films up as much as likes, but he does so at the expense of the integrity of his vision such as it was when he created the films, and at the expense of the respect of his fans. Personally, I feel he should at least, AT LEAST, provide us with the choice to view his "updated" version (indicative of an ever growing obsession with an unattainable and megalomaniacal pursuit of perfection) or the originals. This would at a minimum prove that he has a miniscule amount of consideration for those who grew up with these films as they were orignally created. I hope I'm making sense, yet not coming off too strong. I'm really rather drunk right now.

As for the Greedo shoots first scene, oshkigod, in the orignial Star Wars, Han Solo is having a conversation with a green alien in the Mos Eisely (sp?) Bar. Greedo is pointing a blaster at Solo, informing him that he is attempting to collect a bounty on Solo issued by Jabba the Hut. Solo shoots and kills Greedo with his own blaster, concealed under the table. In the "Special Edition" of Star Wars, currently the only version Lucas is making available on DVD, the scene plays out the same, except Greedo shoots first at Solo, missing (sitting two feet away, yeah right!!!), which prompts Solo to shoot and kill him in response, as if this is supposed to make Solo more sympathetic and less of a "scoundrel." Really a pretty stupid addition. Completely superfluous. End rant!!!!

i remember that scene now (been some time since i saw the original trilogy). my wife preordered the recent release on dvd, will keep an eye out for this (and from what i gather, many other) change (s)

p.s. i can see both sides of this argument. yes, Lucas has the right to change the film, it being his film and all, but he is definitly going to piss off purists with every change, and they are going to bitch.

i feel that the ever changing original epesodes is Lucases attempt to make the whoe saga pg and ready marketable for youth. The first film was a gritty corpse filled dark look at life on the edge of a collapsing empire. By the third film, we had the cartoon like ewoks and cartoon like death. I completely discoutn eps 123 as well as 5 and 6. In my opinion, none of these films captured anything so richly portrayed in ep 4. I was 12 when I saw 4 the first time. When 5 came out, it was okay but only ok. By 6, I* don't rermember going to the theater to see it.

George Lucas is homogonozing a once great vision into a saturday morning franchise.

There is ZERO justification to alter a movie that's some 20+ years old. I could see some enhancement of the soundtrack, but overall to change the movie is assinine.

I don't care if he does own the movie. The changes that he makes alter the overall feel of the movie and if the feel of the movie changes, what are you trying to release exactly?

EDIT: While I could understand if he was releasing the original as mentioned above, but he's releasing the altered set, which is showing his lack of care for the core base of his movies........

If you haven't seen the South Park addressing this exact issue, it is a must see. Amazing how poignant that show is.

Gotta agree with Gregure, sure, they are his movies, ie he owns the rights to them. But, and this is a big but, we own the art. And you can't (shouldn't) take that away. If the pope decided to paint over the Michealangelo's ceiling in the sistine chapel would that be okay? The pope is the supreme ruler in Vatican city, and it would be his right to do so, but that doesn't make it right. Even with all the director's cuts out there you can still get the original release if you prefer. At least Lucas sould give us that courtesy. Ass.

Forgive my ignorance here, but isn't "Star Wars" protected by some act of government from alterations?

I guess I will hold on to my THX-remastered "Original Star Wars Trilogy" laserdiscs a little longer.....

I've been looking at these discs for some time. I guess it's time to s**t or get off the pot, so to speak. Prices could drop soon or they could sky-rocket too. Then again I'd have to buy a player.

That change makes no sense what-so-ever. Anakin died as and older man, just as Obi-Wan did. So why would the older Anakin be replaced with the younger and not Obi-Wan.

This is either a very good fake. Or else there is being more added in to explain it somehow.
