when would I use this ? is this for SACD ?? Im talking about the input on the back of the receiver. I don't need to hook this up if I want to add a rear centre do I ??

It is used for SACD and DVD-A and any other format the receiver cannot decode or when you want to use the DACs in the player. I am not sure what you are asking about the rear center.

thanks gatemplin thats what I thought. about the rear centre I was asking if I needed to connect to the 6 ch input in order to get my 6.1..then it hit me I saw the rear center speaker cable binding post on the back of the receiver !!

Yeah, you can still use the digital connections. The 6 channel input includes the sub, no dedicated rear center AFAIK.
