Question Best new or used center under $300?

My brother is looking for a center, and has asked me for suggestions. He likes my CSI30's and CSI40, but wants other options too. I have been so happy with my CSI's I haven't tried many other brands. Any ideas? Thanks, Eric.

What are his main speakers? It is almost always best to stick with the same line.

Yeah, you wanna go timbre-matched, if possible. Otherwise, there are lots of options available for center channels, especially used ones. In addition to Polk, consider the BIC DV62CLRS, Acoustic Research AR2C and AR4C. Klipsch and Mirage make a few good ones, too. I'd also check out www.audioreview.com for other very high rated consumer reviews of center channel speakers. I suggest you look at those center channels that have 6.5" woofers.

I have a Polk CS225 and a really good Yamaha center laying around. If interested in buying used, send me a PM and we can work something out.

Forgot to add that he's got a 24 year old pair of Boston Acoustics. I doubted that he'd be able to timbre match with them.

You are probably correct. The Yamaha I have has a tone control which does allow some amount of timbre matching at the speaker.

i say go for the polk centers....if he already likes polk speakers, he can have the center he like, and if he decides to upgrade later he can get timbre matched polk mains. and then surrounds, and then amps, a bigger tv, better wire, bigger amps....the list is endless

Since he has boston, I would go with Boston, new or old, just because it is Boston...
