Gibson SG Standard
Fender Grand Auditorium Elec/Acoust.
Been at it for about 3 yrs, no lessons or anything, just tabs.
"Looks good from far, but far from good!"
Keyboard here.
< as the name suggests i'm a bass player, been at it off and on for 2 years... between work and school i havn't had as much time to practice as i'd like, but i can play passibly well
MacLeod: I guess youre lucky Polk has such lax hiring standards.
Josh: Damn skippy!
I used to play trombone, lame I know, but since then have a strong disposition for any music, rock especially, with brass in it.

I have been learning to play guitar since 1965. I am currently in an acoustic trio with another guitarist and a bass player. We play a few local bars in the Cincinnati area. As you might guess, I am partial to Carvin equipment.

There is a difference between being good and professional recorded to being mediocre and in high school.Originally posted by BlueMDPicker
Shiz,
Bull*hit on the lame. Take a listen to any Roomful of Blues album and see how important da bone is to their great sound.
But yes, I agree, the bone is essential.
I really don't categorize the music I play, but I guess you could say it pretty much runs the gammut. There isn't much I don't enjoy. As far as music that I'm into now....Originally posted by BlueMDPicker
Hi Demi,
What kind of music are you in to?
Alternative Country:
My Morning Jacket
Wilco (not as much alt country anymore)
I'm also into more acoustic stuff. Any music that has soul (which is pretty much NOTHING that's on the radio now-a-days).
I'll just sit back and wait for someone to call me a music snob now. :) I'm really not like that...I just don't like the over produced stuff that the radio shoves down your throat over and over and over again on the radio. There is no variety anymore.
Call me 'indie man' I guess...![]()
Blue,
You know it is quite funny how injuries can alter your means of thought and in this case, play!! How many years have you been at the keys? I see you enjoy jazz – which in my opinion is one of the more difficult forms of music to play. You either have it in you or you don’t.
As for myself, I have been playing (off and on) since I was about 10 years old, never did learn how to read music – which hasn’t spoiled the fun really. As for the styles I like to play, its all over the place - smooth jazz, traditional jazz, blues, folk, celtic, old rock, techno, newage, hard rock, international, classical / orchestra…et all. Usually, it is all about sitting back, let my fingers fly and getting lost in the moment.
Ive been a drummer for 16 years. However I havent played in 2 years. Thats the trouble with drums; they dont have a volume control so when you live in an apartment its hard to get in practice time!
I play mostly progressive heavy metal like Dream Theater, Rush, Fates Warning, Wratchchild America, Stratovarius and Nightwish to name a few.

Stratovarious. A man with taste........ You are the first *American I assume?*I have run across that has mentioned that band,
I hope they get things back together. They lost their singer and awesome drummer to the ego maniac of a guitarist (ala Yngwie Malmsteen) and as far as I know havent replaced them yet.
I actually dig Nightwish better. I like their keyboardist's sound and think its cool to have a chick opera singer fronting a heavy metal band. Plus shes hot! :D

Mac,
Stratovarius definately is an acquired taste. A friend turned me on to this Finnish band a few years back. I havent followed them recently though.
I agree, Nightwish is absolutely awesome. I love playing their guitar riffs on the board (ala, more acoustic style).
Hell yeah! Its actually the only band where I think the keyboardist makes the sound! He doesnt use the typical wimpy sounding keyboard mix, his is more like violins and other string instruments. That mixed with Tarjas awesome, classically trained voice make them just about my favorite band behind Dream Theater.
In fact Im listening to "End of All Hope" as I write this! The most powerful song I know!
