Default Best "resonable" CD/DVD player for sound quality?

I'm using a 6 year old Divx DVD player for movies and for music. I think it's time to upgrade :D

I'm mainly looking for high-quality audio playback. I do watch the ocassional movie, but not sure if I really want to get a new DVD player as well. I hear it's better for audio to get a stand alone CD player so the video part of the circuitry doesn't affect sound quality.

I have heard modding a Toshiba 3960 is great, but is it great for video playback and audio? How much better is it modded vs. standard? I'd like to keep this purchase low, if possible.

    Thanks!

Check out the Pioneer Elite dv-45a.It's very well priced and performs better then others in it's price class.

SACD and DVD audio also come in the package
