    Default Yammies or Denon...help fast

I have put in offers on line and would like to know what is the best decision..need this advice fast....

Denon 3805, $800..new, in the box (was looking at the 2805)

    Yamaha RXV 1400, $300 US...used private sale.

Yamaha RXV 2400, $586 demo...option to pay $50 more for new in the box...

of course I have to pay shipping, and maybe duty in Canada.

Or, wait for the Yamaha RXV 2500 next month.

I guess it comes down to the 2400 or the Denon 3805 .

but $300 is good for the 1400....

    Thanks Polkies

Without knowing anything else about your system, I would go with the Denon 3805 as I feel Denon builds better sounding receivers then Yamaha.

Man, $300 is a pretty sick price for the $1400. Actually it's good prices on all of them really. It really comes down to the sound you like. As mantis said, he prefers the Denon sound. I prefer the Yamaha sound.

Denon by far! They still rate their power RIGHT. Yamaha went to rating their "stuff" at 1k htz. They'll be the next company to compete with JVC, Sony and Pioneer. Say what you want, but all of those companies at some point made quality stuff but fell into the big box mentality.

I can't talk about the HTR series Yammys, never looked, but the 2400 rates like this.........

This is directly from the product literature availible at http://www.yamaha.com

    AUDIO SECTION
Minimum RMS Output Power (8 ohms, 20–20,000 Hz, 0.04% THD)
    Front Channels 120 W + 120 W
    Center Channel 120 W
    Surround Channels 120 W + 120 W
    Surround Back Channel 120 W + 120 W

They don't rate all channels driven when giving the wattage though (even in the RXV line). They rate each channel individually. Do full bandwidth power on all channels driven and see what kind of power you get... DON'T FALL FOR THE SCHEMES! BTW, I know this because I'm personal friends with the Yamaha Rep for my area. He is even upset with how the company is going...

Guys, respond to his thread in the Electronics section. He went thread crazy and posted 20 of the same thread all over the place.

Receiver issues are an ELECTRONICS forum subject (he now understands this), so put your responses there.......por favor.

Agree with brettw22, C J T's threads are too many now and not just that, but he is asking the samething over and over again. I guess he is too new to HT stuff and doesn't know what he is looking for.

I tried to help him and wrote some replies like everybody else did but he never replied, or aprreciated to my posts.

Yamaha 2400 puts only 45-50w x 7RMS all channels driven. The power ratings on receivers are more like a stated not rated. It's called "Marketing watts" a strategy to sell the product. It is somehow misleading.

I have the RXV-3300 and all I can say is it's a great product. You'll probably find alot of brand loyal comments when asking about receivers. I really don't think you would go wrong with either. I have a yamaha because I had a deal on it I couldn't pass up. After using it for over a year or so I couldn't be happier with the sound and build quality of the 3300. By the way it sounds great when you have RTi10s as well. ;)
