Default Amp for SVS CS Ultra?

Hey guys, I'm going to audition a CS Ultra tomorrow and will most likely buy it (it's only $400). It's being sold without an amp, so I was wondering if you have any suggestions on what to pick up? I know SVS packages it with a 1000-watt Samson, but it seems like I remember some people here not liking their product too much. Also I figure I can probably do better getting used gear. So any makes/models I should be looking for? Thanks!

    Well...

Since the PC Ultra uses like a 525 watt amp?

I would go for 500-600 watt amp - 4 ohms...

    good luck!

Pro amps from QSC, Crown and Sampson should do the trick. I'd go for a Crown, they've got excellent customer service from what I've read.

Check out the new digital subwoofer amps from www.adireaudio.com They are called the ADA300 600 and 1200. They have lots of power and lots of features. You can build a seperate box to hold the amp.

Yeah the Vaza looks great. Adire is a really cool company. They now do all the design and engineering, and lots of production in house. Very high quality stuff for reasonable prices. They can afford to do this because most of their business is OEM design and production for big companies.

I got it! Now I just have to get an amp so I can listen to it. I went over to the guy's house for the audition and it turns out he is a contributing editor for Widescreen Review (John Kotches). So my audition was actually in the sound room he uses for his reviews. We used some PSB speakers that he was doing a review on, along with I blieve a Meridian preamp and dvd player, Pioneer Elite universal player, and Edge amps. He had warned me ahead of time that the CS Ultra wasn't properly setup for that room and that he was underpowering it, at about 180 watts at 4 ohms. It's always hard evaluating a product in an unfamiliar room with unfamiliar gear as well, but everything sounded great. We didn't really play anything at earth-shattering levels (well, Fellowship of the Rings seemed pretty loud at reference -10db) so my lungs never got collapsed or anything like that. ;) I think perhaps the best thing I can say about the CS Ultra is when I was listening to music, it was really hard to tell what the speakers were playing and what the sub was playing. It blended in seamlessly. Anyway, should be fun once I get an amp for it.

I like my settup crossed at 65 and my speakers on large. I'll agree the svs blends real well.

look around before you buy a sampson. its good but could be better.
