Getting feedback when watching TV

Ive got my TV/Cable hooked up through my receiver and when I watch tv Im getting a high pitched background feedback sound whether the volume is up or all the way down.
Im posting this here since I have a hunch its my generic rca cables. What do you guys think I should do to eliminate this?

For what its worth, when I listen to the cd player I dont get the high pitch tv feedback but I do get a very quiet 'shhhhhh' sound.....exactly what you would hear if you turned your speakers WAY up without any music playing. Its so quiet that I dont hear it when the volume is up even the slightest bit.

It is possible the problem is with the cable converter box, they can have relatively poor signal-to-noise ratios when compared to good audio gear. In other words, the high frequency noise that you are hearing could be caused by the cable converter box. You could consider having it exchanged by your cable company, hopefully this would lower the noise. To test the connecting cable, remove the right and left RCA cables from the cable box and put them into another high level output source, such as your DVD or CD player. In all likelihood the noise won't be there. I hope this helps.

Like I said above, I dont get this high frequency feedback when listening to cd (rca cables are of the same type).

Its funny that you mentioned as the audio equipment quaility increases the more pornounced the sound.

When I had my Monitor 7's hooked up I couldnt hear it where as with my LS90's I can hear it through the tweeters to well.
Im wondering if lower resisting rca cables would just make it worse.:(

BTW, the cable box is a digital cable receiver from Comcast.

Unplug the cable (the cable company cable) from the cable box and see if it goes away.

Im still suspicious that its my a/v (rca) cables.

What a/v cables could I try out that is zero noise yet still not much more than $30?

Switch the CD player cable with the converter cable. If it is still there, it isn't the cable or quality of the cable, its is the cable converter as Ken claimed.

Poor source sound, the CD player would have it too if the cables are the same.

i know this is a pain in the ass.. but.. can you tell us how you have your cable wired into your receiver? does it go from the cable box into your recevier. OR is it going into your TV then into your receiver.

the more info you can give us.. the better we can help to isolate the problem. Sometimes I turn off what i think is the offending piece of gear.. then crank the volume on the receiver.. and see if I get hiss or buzz or humm.. then i turn on one piece at a time and do the same thing.. it helps to isolate the problem some.

also.. low quality components can add hiss or hum too. for instance... i have two FM tuners. one a high quality vintage Pioneer analog. the other a POS digital Sansui.. the Sansui has a hiss to it.. and sounds like the POS it is. the Pioneer on the other hand is nice, smooth and quiet.. no hiss at all.

turn it around.. run the DVD player directly to your receiver.. bypass the TV altogether.

then if you want TV sound.. run another run of RCA's to another audio input on the recevier.. this is where i think you might be getting the noise you're talking about. if you do run it thru the tv then to the receiver.. the TV audio has to be turned down to almost nothing. or else.. you'll start to hear hissing and hum from it.
