Default Don Lindich tours Polk Headquarters

Didn't see this posted anywhere yet, and thought many of you might find this interesting.

Don Lindich, a technology writer whose opinion I have come to greatly respect (he has a weekly column in my local paper) recently wrote up an article about his tour of Polk headquarters. Take a look here:

    Thumbs up

"Every once in a while we will come up with an idea for a new finish and the prototype guys will put them together to see what it actually looks like. We put them in the hall to get feedback from the employees. That particular finish would probably be good in Europe."

Funny thing is that I visit this site almost every day! I guess I mostly just check in to see if there are any good deals in the Flea Market.

Anyone else somewhat surprised by the demo room (picture above)? I'm surprised that

    a) it's not bigger, and

    b) Polk "voices" speakers in a room filled with dozens, if not hundreds, of other drivers. Just doesn't seem like an ideal environment, from an acoustics perspective. Although, maybe that's the point. I'm sure Polk knows what its doing.

I've been in that room before...

pretty decent size, nothing extroidinary and not near perfect...

None of Polks listening facilities are. Not even the SRT room

It may not be ideal, but it's realistic. That picture looks like the typical mass market retailer demo room. Polk probably wants to hear what the speakers will sound like in the environment in which the consumer will hear them.

And lets face it, most peoples in home listening environment isn't much better. Typically, its worse.

The listening room at Polk is constantly being re-arranged. I am curious to know of Matt clears the room of the other speakers to critique products for voicing and other good stuff.

While the drivers in the room all add resonances to the total room, I highly doubt the effect would be audible.

Now you mention it, the room does seem to resemble a Circuit City speaker room with the raised platforms for the speakers around the edges of the room.

Another vote for the silver Lsi's. They look much better than the black ones.
