Hello,
I currently own a pair of RTi100's and am looking to add 2 RTi28's and a CSi30. This is what Polk has recommended. I will be replacing my Marantz receiver with either Denon 2805 or a Yamaha 750. I am having a lot of trouble find the RTi28's and CSi30 in Canada. Is this my best solution or do you suggest something else? As well, a stereo person indicated that he would put the Yamaha against the Denon any day of the week. For a new guy, I would like another opinion. Thanks for the help from Canada and close to the Arctic Circle.

Welcome to the forum.

Polk doesn't make the RTi28 any longer, but you may be able to find some on eBay or the like. As for the AVR, a demo is always best if possible.

I wish there was a place to demo the equip., but the closest good stereo shop is a 2 hour plane ride. If not the 28's what would you suggest?

Seriously, there are many internet audio stores, like Crutchfield that have 30 day returns, no questions asked. Buy both and return one.....or both if you don't like either.

Don't worry about auditioning RTi28's or RTi38's. They'll be close to the RTi100's minus the bass. Fill the center with CSi40 if you can and you'll be set.

Unfortunately, Crutchfield doesn't ship to Canada.

Are you based in Whitehorse or even more remote?

I have the csi30. It's a nice centre. If you suffer from chronic upgraditis, I'd get the csi40 if you can swing it. It's much bigger though so take that into consideration if you have to balance it on your tv. ;)

Can't comment on the denon, yamaha receiver issue as I've haven't tried either. Do both of them have preouts? That's a nice option to have should you decide to go with separates in the future.

IMO, the Denon is fine. I have a 2802 with a set of RT1000i's the older brother of the RTi100's and they sound great.

I am based in Yellowknife and venture above the Arctic Circle from time to time. Are you aware of any place in Vancouver that sell Polk. All I keep getting hits on are Future Shop & The Brick. Neither one sells mid-ti-upper Polk. Thanks for the inquiry. Diamonds are beautiful in the North.

The brick and futureshop pretty much have the market on Polk down here. There's a shop 'Brighouse Stereo and TV' in Richmond B.C that carries Polk. They'll order speakers in for you. They can't compete with Futureshop and such on price but they did spend the time to try and understand what my needs were. I can phone them if you have a specific inquiry.

I got my CSi30 from Futureshop. The CSi30/40's been replaced with the CSi3 and CSi5 I believe. The style may not match your 100's though. You can ask Polk customer service to confirm if they're a good acoustical match for the RTi100's.

Futureshop has them on sale right now and shipping's free. Bet they don't get many orders from the NWT though. heh...

I am very new to this audio thing and my research landed me in the Polk World. I purchased the 100's a year ago and am very happy with them. Now I would like to expand adding a centre channel and rears. The home page for Polk made me look at the 28's as a compatible rear solution. I have someone in eastern Canada searching for 28's just because of the recommendation from Polk and I like the price. It will probably be a hard find. I would look at 38's, but am not sure if that would be a good match and then what centre channel. The more I ask, the more answers I receive. I appreciate all the help everyone is offering. Is the CSi3 a good fit in the direction I'm heading?

PS - Only rejected people from Canada use eh. Or, as they do not say in Ohio, You're welcome.

I'm a pretty big fan of Yamaha, but the Denon 2805 is in another class compared to the Yamaha RXV750. If the price is right, I'd get the Denon. Compare against the RXV1500 or 2500 and it's a lot closer fight.
