    Default non powered 6.1

    why would a company say their receiver is 6.1 and the rear center is not powered? how does this work ?

    It's not unusual. my old Pioneer Elite receiver was set up the same way. The receivers will process a 6.1 sound track, or even output a 7.1 signal. Having only 5 amplified channels keeps the cost down. No harm, no foul. you as the consumer/end-user just need to make sure that you are buying the equipment that meets your needs/expectations.

    You have to buy an outboard amp for the processed, but unpowered channels.
