I agree. I wonder if my vinyl record of his debut album, from 1986, is worth anything? :D

I liked this movie. I didn't know what to expect going in. It looked amazing and the fight scenes were very cool .The story was very interesting too.

    Thumbs up

Well finally seen it on the big screen and overall I give it a thumbs up. :)

I'd rank it above Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon but below HERO.

Tragic that Anita Mui died before production- as a result Yimou had to do rescript the storyline. I'm sure there would've been a spectacular fight for her....:(

Anita Mui was suppose to play the leader of the House of Flying Daggers but died of cancer at only the age of 40.

If I recall there was suppose to be a fight scene with Zhang Ziyi and her.

Out of respect they didn't get a replacement and Yimou rewrote the script.

Could explain the many twists the movie took on towards the end.

    Dlew,

I just picked up the special edition ! Great audio as it's got DD-EX and dts-es !

However the video quality varies from scene to scene. Probably much like yours dlew. The field scenes are bleached to the point there's loss of detail.

Though the biggest issue is that the dvd freezes half way through !?!? Could be my dvd player or it could be this newly issued dvd.

I'm gonna bring it back to my retailer and test it there. Let you guys know.......

Looks like the SE version included in the limited edition set, which is around $47.

Ok, so I exchanged the special edition disc and and this latest swap proved to be no problem at all. Strange, first time I encountered a problem like that. Hopefully it's not a bad batch of discs out there.

Back to the special edition though, what can I say ? Just amazing in the dts-es surround department. I imagine like the HERO- dts-es edition, it's using the full bit rate ! The "echo game" rocks in this surround mode ! :D

Picture quality is quite good but the early field scenes definitely needs improvement.

I'm sure the Sony Superbit will improve on the picture but can they provide a dts-es + Dolby Digital EX soundtrack?.....
