Default polk surround speakers: in wall or bookshelf?

Hey there,

was wondering what the better sounding option would be for surround speakers for a 6.1 system? The speakers are to be mounted on/in the rear wall.

I have in mind:
R15 or R20 (bookshelves)

or

RC65i or RC85i (in-wall speakers)

Thanks in advance!

Question first:
What other speaker are you trying to match them with?
That will help to decide which would be better.

With that question out of the way, the RC series should have a little better tweeter than the R series if I'm not mistaken. However, the R series speakers will have a "fuller" sound since they are not inwall speakers.

Have you thought about putting another set of RTA8TL's at the back wall? You could put them on short stands to put them above your listening position.

There is a set on ebay right now that you could use for this purpose.RTA8TL

they would be pretty cool, but a couple of problems exists:

1) I live in Australia and shipping would be .. um.. prohibitive!
2) I would like the speakers to be out of the way and like the look of a wall mounted bookshelf of in-wall speaker.

just realized that I've posted in the Flea market section... :-0

Yeah, shipping would be a killer.
Maybe someone else will have some suggestions other than what I've mustered up so far.

Between the R20s and R15s, I would definitely choose the R15s, especially for rears. The R20s do better with bass, but the tweeter in the R15s sounds better to my ears. For surround, you want clarity in the mids and highs, and the R15s would do the job.
