Default Any thoughts on these Monitor 7's?

The tweeters look like upside down peerless, but then I've seen that a couple of times and I'm not sure what that really means.

The cabinets remind me of my Monitor 12 series 2 speakers, so I'm thinking the tweets could be SL2500's in that peerless housing or something. I'm confused.

The seller lists the info from this site, which only has info on the later Monitor series. Which reminds me, I wish this site had a more thorough database of information on it's vintage speakers. I'm sure it would if it wasn't a major hassle, I'm just saying that I wish it did for selfish reasons.

I'm not sure about these 7's, but they're a stone's throw away from me.

The later 7c's used the SL2000 and the 7 series 2 used the SL2500. If I'm not mistaken, both of them are a black-dome tweeter. At least, the SL2500s in my Mon10 Series 2's look like that.

Also, back when the Peerless replacement tweeters for the SL1000 were available from Parts Express, they looked like that as well. I bought a pair for my 5jr's and they are a black dome tweeter like that.

I believe that the original SL1000 was the only tweeter to have the silver dome, but again... I could be wrong.

*shakes head* I just looked at the pics of my own damn speakers and realised that the SL2500 looks nothing like an SL1000. Oy.

Having never had an SL2000, I can't say if they would look like the SL1000. However, I do know that the old Peerless replacements looked like that with the black dome.

Hopefully someone knowledgable steps in and sets me straight :)

BTW- I've heard people sing the praises of the Monitor 7's, so if they're local, and the right price, I say go for 'em.

Looks like they replaced with the old Peerless tweets. Appear to be 7c's maybe b's. you can see some gap issues where the tweets go....but then again i could be wrong

The tweeters are just installed upside down, which might mean they were replaced or fooled with, looks like peerless or sl1000 to me... the sl2500 didnt have the lines coming from the dome.. and the sl2000 has the silver dome... they look original to me.. besides being upside down..

    It's not a SL1000.

I agree, they could be later replacements, as the cab's look a little more current.

    Worth it? Sure.

Wouldn't there be some crossover issues with putting a peerless tweeter into a newer Monitor speaker? Hmmm, I don't know what's going on with that speaker, but I'm inclined to avoid it at this point.

The fish eye(SL2000) is never pretty, and "silver" is the last word I would use for it; however the SL3000 can look silver, gold or even a black metallic.

Crossover issues? Of course, but would they be audible? Who knows, probably not.

Doro, do we think that's a peerless? Or could it also be an SL2500 or replacement for the SL2500? Can the latter two be fit into that tweeter housing? I'd go for them if they were peerless and the crossover problems weren't audible.

I agree, danger, it does. I guess I was hoping for comfirmation on that. I think I'll email him and ask if the tweeter has a little indentation in the middle of it. But then didn't some of the peerless tweeters avoid that treatment?

Yes. I have seen a couple Peerless tweeters without the indentation.

My Mon10's are boxed up. Hey Al, measure your Peerless for LC....I honestly don't recall if they are smaller or not...i think they are.

i can measure the Peerless tweets in my 7B's later tonight.

but i to think i remember someone saying that some Peerlesses did not have the dimple. but by every account, it does look like a Peerless tweet.

The entire front looks just like mine.. which say 7B on the back.

The tweets are all the same size, so you could put an SL2500 into the peerless bracket. I should probably just drive over to the guys place and get a good look at them.

    Thanks for the pics, guys.

Oh, pj, is that a mint looking peerless in your 10A's?

Not all the Polk tweeters are the same size, the SL1000 for example.

LC - Do you mean for your initial question, that they would work?

Doro, I wanted to know two things: Firstly, are those peerless tweeters in those speakers I'm interested in. And secondly, if they are, do they integrate into the rest of that speaker system.

It sounds like you're saying not to worry about the second question, that the crossover issue won't be audibly problematic. But I still don't know if they peerless tweeters or not, even though I've only ever seen peerless tweeters in that bracket.

Sorry if I haven't clearly defined my concerns,

here is the Peerless from my 7B's. typical looking. (except the dust).

    it measures 4.5" wide x 3" height.

I measure a Peerless from a monitor 10. same size and look.

so i'm thinking L&C's are peerless tweets as well.. minus the dimple. ;)
