Denon AVR-3805

I was just wondering what people think about this receiver? I am planning on buying a new one but I am not sure whether to get this one or the Yamaha RX-V2500. Which one do you guys think is better?

I have 2 Denon receivers and a Denon DVD player and I am very pleased with them.

I have no experience with the Denon and I'm by no means an expert on AVRs but I can say that I'm very happy with my Yamaha RX-V2400. It's gotten great reviews...I'm sure the 2500 is as good if not better.

Denon > Yamaha any day of the year! I've done a side by side comparison between a $500 (retail of course) Yamaha to a $380 Denon. Denon SMOKED it. There was no life what-so-ever on the yammie. The bass was muddy, there was no depth, the highs sounded (get this) overprocessed. DSP's are the devil, even when you're only in stereo!

another vote for Denon. I won't say necessarily that Denon is better than Yamaha...most just tend to prefer Denon when mated with Polk speakers...

As usual for Denon they own the 1000.00 mark receivers. Denon is by far alot better then the Yamaha. Years ago I preferred the Yamahas, but after the release of the avr3801 , I have felt Denons sound quality and features to be far superior to Yamaha.

Between the two, the yammie will have a cleaner, more natural sound than the denon. The bass will be more natural with the yammie but it will be bright, especially with polks. Bass seems slightly forced with the denon almost muddy. However, the soundstage is OWNED by the denon. The soundstage stretches far beyond the physical limitations of the speaker with rock solid imaging. The amplifier section also goes to the denon, hands down. The yammie distorted much sooner at high volumes than the denon did.
My pick, the denon. It's easier to use, much bigger soundstage and the amplifier is much stronger. The sound quality between the two is almost like splitting hairs unless you a/b the two extensively. I think the neutral sound of the denon mates with the polks much better. That's my take.

I would Go with the Denon....I just got my 3805 and I love it. It made my old speakers sound new again beat out most everything else in the price range hands down. I did my homework before purchasing and this is the one people kept turning to when looking for a new top-o-the-line receiver.

As far as amp section goes neither of them is solid when pushed to louder levels. If you're looking for a good amp section look for a similar priced NAD or HK both will blow Denon and Yamaha's power supply and your speakers will thank you. Another option is to get either Yamaha or Denon and add a good 2-ch amp.

If you have money and desire to get the best possible sound. Look into separates and don't waste your money on receivers.

This is not supported by lab measurements recently pubished in the H.T. mag and the S&V mag. For example, the 3805 has much more 1, 2 channel power than HK's AVR630. The 3805 won even in 5 & 7 channel driven power, as well as in power into 4 ohms. That said, if you are comparing power supplies, I do believe the 630 has a better/more powerful one. I have to suspect the HK did not do as well as the Denon in power output because of the perhaps weaker amp section.

In real life auditioning, the 430 did not do well driving the RTi10, but the 630 certainly did.

Yup, it is about Denon vs. Yamaha. Here is what I have to say about Yamaha. I've been using Yamaha RX-V1400 for about more than a year and I love the way it sounds. It depends on a listener too, personally I prefer clean, detailed and neutral sound then overly bright or warm.

Yamaha shines on Classical, Jazz, Electronic and many other type of music. I listen to contemporary Jazz where refinement and accuray is needed and Yamaha does it very well.

I'm not into Hard Rock and Hip-Hop and I think Yamaha turns little bright here.

It has all the features and enough inputs and outputs. State-of-the-art machine so as the Denon 3805.

I've never heard to Denon so I can't really comment on 3805, just to be honest. It is also one heck of a receiver as well. My experience is only with Yamaha RX-V1400.

So, it really boils down to what type of music you listen to most, ofcourse movie sounds equal on both. When it comes to sound quality I always blame the source. WELL RECORDED CD/DVDs always sound better!

One day I'll get the dedicated Pre/Pro from NAD, Anthem or Rotel and Yamaha, Denon will be the thing of past. :D
