new slp meter

i just bought the radioshack analog slp meter (33-4050).

how do i set it up so i can tell how low my bass is going?

An SPL meter is used to measure decibels, not frequency. What you want is test tones to download and burn to a cd, then use them in conjuction with your SPL meter to tell you how loud your bass is specific frequencies. Check out my thread for test tone download links, as well as the correction factors needed.

Well that's what most people around here use them for. Are you just wanting to find out how low your sub will go?

It doesn't do that. The function of an SPL meter is to measure sound pressure levels only. In order to measure frequency response you need a completely different piece of equipment.

i am very curious how low my sub will go yes. does the digital one give hi and low frequensies?

Download these test tones, they are a one frequency tone ten seconds long. You could start at 16hz and go up in increments of two to save a lot of downloading. Burn them to a cd, then play them on your stereo with your SPL meter in hand and it will tell you how loud your sub is at each frequency. Your figures will need to be corrected as mentioned in the thread I linked. Then you could make a graph and look for any dips or spikes in the frequency response and try to flatten them out.
