Default Mixing Home Audio With Mobile Audio

    Hey guys,

Didn't really know where to post this but spring isn't to far away and the work on the boat will soon begin. But the point is as some of you know we put some home audio equipment in our boat, therefore my dad wants to take the rest of the mobile audio equipment out.

Now what I'm thinking is that the only decent piece of mobile audio equipment we have is a 400 Watt Clarion Amplifier. Seeing as we don't have a subwoofer for the boat I was think why not put that amplifier to good use and pick up a subwoofer and box and use the Clarion amplifier to run it so we round out the sound wit some nice low end.

My question is, would I be able to run a Y-Splitter from the sub pre-out on the Denon to the Clarion amplifier?

    Thanks Guys

If they are both the same level of signal, yes, I wouldn't see why you can't.

Yes, just adjust your gains accordingly on the Clarion amp.

Checked out the amp today and something just dawned on me. What will I do about the control wire on the amp? If we use the amp along with our Denon AVR-2805, we won't have a control wire to tell the amplifier to turn on.

Is there a way around this?

    Thanks

I'm not recommending this but I'm just going to throw this out as a possibility. A remote wire on a CA radio basically just sends a 12v signal to the amp to turn it on. Isn't this the exact same thing that the mini plug on the back of the denon would do for an external amp? And if I remember correctly, those outputs are typically just a 12v signal to turn on the amp. Nothing more. So in theory, couldn't you just take a mini plug from the amp and cut the other end off and run the bare wire directly into the Clarion? Interesting as I have never tried it but I can't see right now why it wouldn't work.

Where would this equipment be placed? Car audio equipment is much more resilient to heat, humidity, etc than home audio. Just something to think about.

    Toxis,

I was thinking the same thing. So I figured the pre-outs on the back of a car deck would do the same as a home theater receiver, right? Well I disconnected the control wire and turned the car deck on and the Clarion wouldn't turn on. Now if the pre-outs on the Denon can somehow turn the amp on then I'll be all set.

    Bknauss,

The Denon is down inside the cabin. As for the Clarion I could set it up inside the cabin or up on the flybridge.

    Thanks, keep it coming!

glemay, just get a toggle switch from radio shack and put in on a wire between the battery and the amp, no big deal, when you want the amp/subs on, you just flip the switch.

    Polk Thug,

Sounds great, thanks! Now we will need to decide on a driver and get a box. What would you guys recommend for our application? The clarion amplifier will put out 380 Watts RMS when bridged I think.

In all honesty, I don't really know what our price range is. Hmmm... Let start at say 300$ CDN for driver and box and see what we can come up with and take it from there.

    Thanks

    Gerald
