Just a quick question that I couldn't find the answer to with a search... Are LCD computer monitors safe sitting in the middle of a pair of speakers that are not magnetically shielded? Thanks.
btw the speakers will be quite close to the monitor.

I've been wondering the same thing, since I got my LCD. As far as I know, magnetism wouldn't effect the picture, but there might be some memory chips in the monitor that could be screwed up by it?
Ludicrous gibs!

After many searches, and talking to the "experts", I flat out could not get a straight answer on the subject. Some people report issues while others do not.
For what its worth, I could use some LSi-7's next to my LCD without any issues at all.. these speakers turned my regular CRT all shades of green and purple when placed a foot from the monitor.
Take that for whatever you think its worth..
Good luck.
Thanks for the replies.
I did some more searching and here is what I found...

Q:As no one on another forum seems to be able to answer this (or is it too obvious?).
Is there any danger to an LCD monitor of putting unshielded speakers near it?
I know this is a no-no with CRTs but assume LCDs are not worried about magnetic fields.
A:It should be a non-issue, as LCDs don't use magnetics to steer the non-existant electron beam. :)
The only danger might be if they produce a large alternating field, as this could induce currents in nearby wiring. Given that they're speakers, rather than motors, I doubt that'll happen.
do you think that this would hold true if you have all 3 gaming systems as part of your ht set-up? can a non-magnet tower speaker...ah...say the tse300 at close proximity to your system wipe out a gaming hard drive? i have an onkyo 706 7.7 channel reciever, a cd player, all gaming consoles, an lcd that is also a monitor an 7 satillite speakers. just purchased 2 tsi300 floor standing speakers and the cs10 center and the floor standing speakers are not magnetically shielded. unfortunely, i didn't discover this til after i clicked the 'order' button. what do you think. am i in trouble with this kind of set-up? rebug
theres no way a speaker is going to wipe a hard drive. you should be fine if you have a lcd tv.
