what glue to use for surrounds?

A buddy of mine has some old realistic speakers with 15" woofers. I believe they are the radioshack mach1 speakers. Anyway, the foam surrounds have loosened from the cones, and now the cones flutter and fart if the bass is too heavy. He wants to know if he can repair 'em.

I offered to see if there was any glue available to repair these. Any thoughts? They don't appear to need new surrounds... just the glue. Thanks,

Found it on Parts Express. No experience with it though (fortunately!).

There's an active DIY forum over at Parts Express. Maybe someone over there has used it.

The glue is white LePages glue nothing else in it.
I replaced a set of 12" foams on my Cerwin Vegas with it.
The Dealer had same small bottle fo glue, and informed me it was just basic white glue.

The problem you may have is that the older speakers used a thicker two sided adhesive strip. or something. this glue may not work in combination with it.

make sure foam and cone are cleaned well and good luck.

I have been playing the Cerwin Vegas for 7 mths now with no glue seperation, and they sound great.

Thanks for the info... Are you talking like Elmers white school glue or something? I'd think that'd soak into the paper too much...

Yup, thats what the man told me. I asked, thinking the old stuff was very flexable, like the black gule strips, used on glass windows. They told me that the white glue is what they sold, to repair foam surrounds.
At this point, I figured what the H, two foams cost me $12. bucks. The glue I had.
New replacment speakers would have run me $120, at least, or throw them out completely. For the $12 doller investment i am very happy.
Do an on line search, for speaker repairs. I found quite a bit of info and detailed picts,with step by step instructions.
