Need your help with my Speaker dillema

Hi all -- new to this forum and new to Polk.

Currently, I have the Atlantic Technology System 170 HT setup , which consists of 4 identical bookshelve speakers with twin 4" drivers and a 1" tweeter, and a Center channel that is identical to the other speakers, except it's on it's side, plus a 12" 150 Watt Sub, all powered by my Yamaha RX-V1400 Receiver.. the sound is GREAT for Pop Music, and some HT applications, but not so for movies such as Star Wars, or for music that is alternative or rock... there is just something missing from the mid bass area.

Anyways, I found a great deal at onecall.com for the Velodyne Deco system (5 identical 4" satellites, plus a 650w 8" sub) and I'm still not satisfied with the sound... which brings me, in a long-winded way, to my question:

How would a setup of two pairs of Rti4 speakers, plus the CSi 3 center, with my Atlantic Tech 12" sub compare to the above two systems? Could my sub be the issue (it's sealed) or will the larger Rti4s give me the mids that I am looking for?

I will be using the setup 50/50 music and HT, and I listen to basically every kind of music from classical, to hard rock, to pop, to r&b to alternative, to techno.... setup is in my family room, and the Rti4s are the biggest I can go while still being able to hang them from the walls and not make my wife mad....the family room is roughly 14'x24' with a vaulted ceiling that goes from about 20' to 8 feet at the rear of the room.. openings all over the place (into the kitchen, into the upstairs loft, etc.)

personally, I'd spend a bit more on your front speakers and use some you already have for surround speakers...maybe look at the RTi6 or RTi8 as your fronts. You can always add rear speakers later on...

Thanks, unfortunately, the RTi6s are just too big... I'm open for suggestions, but the speakers have to be roughly the size of the RTi4s though...

if size is an issue, then I'd just go with the RTi4 then. Keep in mind that you're going to have a hard time with a room that size getting really good mids with a speaker that small, but I do think the RTi4 is a huge step up from the other options you've tried.

And yes, I'd look at getting another subwoofer as well. It won't help with the mids, but should help fill out the sound overall.

What's your budget? If you can spend $400 or so on a sub, take a look at something by HSU Research or Velodyne, or look into DIY options. If you can spend a bit more, it doesn't get any better than SVS.
