would the speed of your connection also have to do with your RAM and processsor speed? more RAM and faster processor will increase your speed?
with two computer running WinXP
computer 1 1.7gig P4 and 512MB RAM
computer 2. 2.8gig AMD Athlon w/512MB RAM
will both have the same speed measured?
I know one can PROCESS faster than the other. but is the connection speed the same for this test?

danger boy- it really depends on how big the difference is. If you have too slow of a computer then it's probably not going to be able to handle all that traffic as efficiently as a faster one would. However, with your two computers, I don't think you'd see much of a difference.
FWIW, here's another speed test site- http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
You can only run 3 tests per IP per month, but I like it because they have a number of servers around the country, not just in CA like DSLreports. Haven't tried the cnet test yet... will try now...
Ludicrous gibs!
Just to show you, I got 1332.5 from cnet, and 2.9mbit from bandwidthplace, within a minute of each other.
The reason speeds will go up if you refresh is because they actually use an image file to monitor the bandwidth. If you hit refresh, your computer already has that image file cached, so it reads it off your HD instead of off the internet...
give www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ a shot... their servers appear to be less busy.. or at least closer to PA. :)
Ludicrous gibs!
i didn't refresh on my test. it was a one time only test. early in the day without much traffic I would assume.

www.pcpitstop.com report for my line at home:
Bandwidth Down 15065 Kbits/sec
Bandwidth Up 1863 Kbits/sec
Average Ping 4 ms
Ping Loss 0%
Real download times, for single download the best I got was from Ubisoft, 8Mbits/s. Multiple downloads from Fedora site, 18Mbits/s. The best part really is the upload, I can now share files.
Fiber is good, especially considering mine is $45 a month.
Airplay- I thought that bandwidthplace.com was capped at 8mbit... guess yours snuck through. Either that, or something is skewed there... What's your line supposed to be? mines supposed to be 3.5mbit, so my 2.9 is pretty decent considering it's during the day and there are 3 other computers on right now.
Sami- You suck.
Ludicrous gibs!
Here's another one you guys might want to check out, it checks download and upload speeds and has other tests too, open ports, etc. and forums.

If you had 9 mega bits you would have a T1 or T3 pipe which costs a grand a month or what ever:D
that's pretty high, ours was 3 megabits, and bright house just announced our bandwidth has increased so i dunno
