Proper way to moutn speakers to stands

So, here's the old debate that I need some help with. I have a set of RT5's and am looking at some MK's. The polks are resting on some MASSIVE stands, 28" high and filled with sand. They weigh about 40 lbs each. Anyway, what is everyones opinion on the best way to attach the speakers to the stands for best sound quality. Some say to decouple them with spikes, others say couple them with something like bluetack, what does everyone think?

What type of stands are they exactly?

Spikes or blue-tak both work well. I recall seeing an audiophile comparison between the sound with bluetak and with spikes. They concluded that the Blue-Tak worked just as good as spikes to decouple the speaker. Blue-tak has the added benefit of making the speaker "stick" to the stand. Its far less likely to get knocked off that way. Another benefit of blue tac is that it doesn't leave dents in the bottom of your speaker.

why not screw them? I have 3ml thick rubber in each corner and small gauge screws in each corner, they are not long enough to go into the internal cabinet and the rubber squashes down to 1 ml or so. they aint going anywhere, even in the event of a moderate earthquake or kids bumbing them.
