    Default Check out the nakedness...

My panels have faded on my Lsi15's and polk was to the rescue. Read this thread for details...
    http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/...threadid=22370

Amazingly, I just now got to taking the old panels off. They came off pretty easy. They were just held on by this double-back tape-like product that came off if you stretched it. You kind of pull it towards yourself, and up. Kind of makes me thing of the 3M product that you stick on the wall to hang stuff on but you pull this piece of tape and the hook comes right off.

Now that I have the panels off today, I'll be applying the new panels tomorrow. But, these speakers look damn sexy now with their panels off! Slender, shiny, piano-black all around. See for yourself. It'll be hard to cover them back up ;)
    Enjoy!

    Default Leave'em nekked!!

I might be inclined to run them naked and save the new panels until you are ready to resell.

They do look great in the piano black!

looks great! did you notice any tonal changes? or is it no difference? Thanks for posting, the double tape that you took off, is it available at your local hardware store?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

    polkatese,
My AVR that I use as a pre-pro, is currently in the shop. So I can't listen to them yet. Since it's in the shop, I thought this would be a good time to do the panel work. I'm not sure about the double-back tape. The new panels have the double-back tape pre-installed. All I have to do is pull off the backing, push the panels on, and I'm done.

    Dennis,
:)) I wish that was the case! Yeah, the walls in this place are bizarre. When they refinished the building, they decided to knock some stucco off, and leave some on and try to give it a historical/artsy look ;)

I wonder if the panel is more of a cosmetic and balancing feature, rather than anything else. Start visualizing the possibilities...

Well, when polk originally sent me the panels they supplied a "polk tool". It was a white, plastic wedge that looked like a door-stop with a sharp point. Unfortunately, I couldn't change out the panels at that time so I had to return the "polk tool".
But, I found a plastic drywall/plaster knife that I used. I hammered it in first between the panel and main cabinet on the back. But it didn't have the angle the "polk tool" did so after getting the the plastic knife started, I then used a screwdriver utilizing the plastic knife as protection against the piano-black finish. Since I'm getting rid of the panels, I didn't care about the screw driver on the panel. Then just pulled the panels off.

    Clear as mud? ;)

I like it better with panels on....it breaks up the monotony. With out the panels, it looks too much like a regular speaker....we all know that they are not...;) :D

Hey I always wanted to see an all gloss LSi tower or bookshelf. They look a little plain like that. If Polk were to put one in production, they'd need to add some curves or something. I just got a new pair of LSi15's myself, and I'll be sticking with the beautiful cherry finish.

lmao. holy **** those speakers look awesome. If you have a traditional den with alot of wood furniture- I like the cherry wood panels on. If you've got a contemporary - style pad- i think the speakers would fit in much better with the panels off or black coverings.

    awesome.

Wow! I really like the looks of those with no side panels. So much so that if I still had the 15's I would be taking the panels off tonight!

Now i'm re-thinking getting phuz's cherry Lsi-15s. I was worried that the cherry would look like crap in my place, but black would match perfectly. Not sure, I think they are second generation and may pose a problem if they're glued, not taped.
