Default SDA 2's and Monitor 12's FS in Seattle Area

Hello

Newbie here, wanting to possibly sell my 2 pair of beloved Polks, Wow this is awesome that Polk provides this forum

Anyway I have a set of SDA 2's and a set of what I believe are Monitor 12 Series according to tag on the back, however tag on the tweeter says RTA 12

The SDA's are in excellant condition, except for some very minor blemish's on the cabinets, grill are perfect and I have the cable that connects them together( cable has 2 flats on each end, no pins)

The Monitor Series are in very good condition, minor blemish's on cabinets, lower grills are perfect, one of the upper grills that cover the tweeter is missing the inner plastic peice that supports it and the wood is cracked in the rear ( see pics )

To be totally honest I have know idea what I have here or what they are worth, I bought them in the mid 80's when I was staitioned overseas in the Navy, I am hoping for a little advice from you guy's as I will more than likely ebay them

If any of you Washington State people are interested in them we may be able to work something out, I am not looking to rip anyone off, but on the other hand I want to get fair value for them

My ebay name is elderthewelder if you want to check me out
my email addy is kurtelder@comcast.net

As noted on the crossover, those are the RTA 12. From the monitor series, but very different from the commonly-known Monitor 12.

I'm sure there'll be somebody interested in those. Seems we've had quite a few of them around lately...

Thanks for that link Tide

So by looking at the completed auctions it appears to me I have the SDA 2A's, but I don't know if the others are RTA 12 or RTA12C's, Is there a way I can tell the differance?

another question, when looking at the SDA 2 completed auctions , the recepticle that the cable plugs in is inside the circle that houses the speaker wire connections, my set has the recepticle below that circle. does that mean anything??

Welcome to the forum.

They would be tagged RTA12C's in most cases.

The pair you have is a little rough, no offense, but I say that mainly in that the right upper grill is already a problem to recloth let alone rebuild....and yours looks crushed.

If aesthetics aren't really a concern...the drivers look great, and from the pictures, cabinets are pretty nice looking.

Dang, and I'm in Everett too. 'Course I'd get booted out if I brought new/big speakers home. Sigh.....

Good luck,

No offense taken, That upper grill is not as bad as it looks, As I am sure you guy's know there are 2 molded plastic supports that go inside the upper grills in the fwd corners that hold the support wire up , it is missing one of those supports and causing the support wire inside to sag, and the inside base has 2 cracks, the cracks are un noticeable unless to take the grill off and look, and could be easily fixed with wood glue. The cloth on it is fine and someone could probobly make a new support out of wood to replace the lost plastic one

other than that all 4 speakers are in extreamly good condition, yes there are some minor nicks on them but overall very good

well a couple of you have expressed interest in my items, Like I said in the emails that I responded to, I have not had these hooked up in quite awhile, and to the best of my knowledge they worked fine , Well I broke out some of my old gear ( onkyo M 508 and p 308 pre amp and a old POS cd player) and hooked up the Polks. The RTA 12's are working awesome, but it seems that the tweeter on one of the SDA's are not working:mad:

Is there a replacement tweeter that I can buy from Polk for the SDA 2's?? and if so how hard is the install, would I need to solder it in or simply plug and play?

Polk sells them. contact customer service. Let them know you are a polkie and you get a little discount. Also they just are plug and play. Maybe the 'interested' peoples will take them without you buying a replacement. They arent cheap :)

Good luck

Thanks Spastic

I guess if I bothered to read the other forums on this site, I could of answered my own question. Man this is a awesome site, very good info on it

any idea what a set of replacement tweets cost? anyone on this board have a set for sale?

so seeing both my RTA12's and my SDA 2A's use the SL2000 tweeter, I could take the tweets from my RTA's and put them in the SDA's correct? That way at least the better of the 2 sets of speakers are up and running ( and that is the set that people seem to be interested in anyway )

After hooking my system back up today, I am having 2nd thoughts about selling them, I may just keep them. but who knows

If i am not mistaken and from the looks of the pics both sets use the SL2000 Silver Coil Dome Tweet. You can get them from Club Polk at 48 a pop (60 for non mbrs). So in fact you could swap them out. All depends on what you want to do. I would personally keep the SDA's only because i love the hell out of mine and but the New replacements which are suppose to be better than the Orig. Keep us posted and stick around for LOTS of good audio knowledge and some other good stuff.

Take out the tweeter in question to make certain a wire hasn't come loose before forkin' out dough for 2 tweeters worth nearly half the value of the whole set.

Agree on pulling the tweeter to see if it's something easy to fix. I recently took delivery of a pair of SDA CRS+. Left speaker didn't make a peep. Opened up the rear, nothing unusual looking. Opened up the left woofer, spied in with a flashlight, saw the black, white & blue (interconnect) wires laying on the floor of the cabinet. Reconnected and everything was just grand, to die for.

Take a look inside.

Could it be that polyswitch some folks have mentioned?

Being naked and outside of somebody's window is the story of my life. Been spotted numerous times, odds too great not to have been, but am too fast to have been apprehended as of yet. Knock on wood!
