    is there an actual reason why mcintosh gear is so nice? or is it just because it sounds nice?

    Actually, there are quite a number of people who don't think much of McIntosh gear.

    This fellow obviously thinks a lot of his gear. He is a textbook example of someone who wants to be compensated for an item's sentimental value. I often see this behavior with real estate sellers. I don't often run across it with sellers of used audio gear.

    Of course, I posted this solely for your amusement.:cool:

    I love Mac gear...

    Atleast on DTs, the high end shop has TOTL DTs and Beemers on a shelf of Mac gear...AWESOME stuff. Nothing like hearing 400 thunderous watts going into two mammoth speakers...woo

    This guy's valuation is out of line, but old Mac gear is good stuff, IMO.

    I think there is also an emotional factor in its pricing. For many of us of a "certain age", Mac was the first high-end gear we ever saw. Clean, powerful, plenty of eye appeal and unattainable in our youth.
