    Thumbs up Sideways DVD

I thought the movie was outstanding in most respects: acting, plot, story. I really got caught up in the story and charaters. The picture quality had a slightly soft quality to it, but that was probably due to a lot of the movie's scenes taking place in interiors with low light. The movie's humor was more the subtle, sarcastic, "real life situations" type than the over the top, sidesplitting type.

I had a difficult time enjoying this one. I could not gather any empathy for the protagonist because he seemed to be a terrible alcoholic.

I think more like crushing Major Depression with alcohol used to deaden the pain. Getting real close to alcohol dependence. Alcohol+Xanax=Real Bad Day.

That said, I think I would have bounced him from the car within the first 20 miles. ;)

Based off a mediocre at best book.

This one follows the trend of the movie being worse than the book.

My wife enjoyed it. The movie kept my attention and there were some funny moments. Worth watching if there's nothing else to do.

I thought it was great, very funny and very sad all at once. Paul Giamatti was tremendous in it...one of the best performances of last year IMO.

If you like Paul in this movie, check out American Splendor....it's a little slower, but his character development is bar none, top notch. THE BEST work from him, IMO.

Paul was great in American Splender - A highly underated bit of acting. But I like his performance in Sideways just a bit more. Who wudda thunk - chemistry between Thomas Haden Church and Paul Giamatti ?!? But it was there. Just a great flick all around IMO. I like movies made for grown ups. A rare thing.

I dunno. For some reason, it seems some of my favorite recent movies have all been cartoons!

Well put Grolsch. And yeah I did see him in American Splendor, another great performance.

I also re-watched Saving Private Ryan a couple of weeks ago...didn't remember that he had a small part in that (he was one of the soldiers in that first village that they came too (where Vin Diesel bought it)...he was complaining about his ankles).
