    Default My first reciever

In looking for info on the garage sale TT I got today I stumbled upon the vintage technics site. Very nice site BTW. While there I found a picture of my very first reciever that I bought with the money from my first job way back in 1986. What a P.O.S. It is a Technics SA-190 with a whopping 35 watts/ch. But I guess it was not to bad for a kid making $3.15 an hour working 10 hours a week. I also had a technics dual tape deck(could not find it in their list), a technics SL-P110 cd player, and a pair of technics SB-L35 2 way speakers.

    Mist water colored memories...........

Is Technics not a good brand? I always thought they were supposed to be pretty good. Arent they the high end of Panasonic or somebody?

    Wink

Jesus....this brings back memories for me. One of my first jobs after Mickey D's was selling stereo equipment at the local mass merchandiser. This was around the time the original Dolby Surround (tm) went mass market, I used to sell that exact model and other Technics products you mentioned owning.....Damn that takes me back. Anybody remember Rack Systems...

"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass

    Rack system?

My first serious system was a Sony rack system I purchased in 1987. Included a linear-tracking turntable with a platter that slides out like CD player. I still have the stereo integrated amp (the system had a separate tuner) and the speakers, which are still in use til this day. While these components weren't state-of-the-art, they were well-build (in Japan).

I am still using a Technics SA-GX690 Dolby Pro-Logic receiver as my headphone amp in my bedroom system (with a Sony SCD-CE595 SACD/CD changer). Excellent sound quality!!
