I've read user opinions where the sub hums when not turned off. Do all subs do this? Or just this one? Or is just isolated incidents? thanks
also, any personal reviews on this sub?

LOL Toxis. I'm sure that might be good advice, however, you didn't answer his question!
He might not be prepared to get a new sub right now, so it would be helpful for him to know if this is something he will always have to live with until he is ready to upgrade.

does it hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
Most all subs emit a VERY faint hum when powered on with no input signal (faint like you have to have your ear practically to the woofer to hear it). That is normal. Cheaper ones may hum a bit louder but it shouldn't be something you hear from 5 feet away in a quiet room.Originally posted by lmpronto

A hum when the sub is on is different - this is from a ground loop in the system, most commonly from a bad cable TV ground. This is not normal.
Can't speak to how this particular sub sounds as I've never heard one, however, most people will agree that Polk's most acceptable sub is the PSW505 which is a bit pricey :-(

dunno, read reviews on this one where it has 'port noise'
there is a difference between humming and port noise

Port noise happens when the sub is firing away and displacing more air than the port can handle quietly. There's no chance you'll notice hum if you are hearing port noise, and vice versa.

ok, well anyone hear anything like hum with this sub?
I have that sub, it hums (I can hear it from 5 feet away)
Looking around for a solution...
I have a bigger brother, psw12, and there is no hum even when my ear is next to the sub (LFE input if that matters). I agree with cnjvh that it might be a ground loop problem if you can hear it few feet away.
Found an extension cord that has the ground wire pulled out, and tried plugging the tv, then the subwoofer into it (each being the only device into the ext cord) and it still buzzes.
Would this still be considered a ground loop problem?
Sounds to me like its defective
talked to polk and they said it shouldn't be buzzing (after a few emails trying different things). Will this buzzing be harmful to my sub? If it is just an annoyance then I can deal with it for a few years untill I buy upgrade to a new one (and send this in for repairs :)
Having to pay for shipping and being without a sub for who knows how long sucks so bad.
