    Default Monty Python

Well, saw it in another thread and thought I'd start one. Absolutly LOVE MP. Have the HUGE Flying Circus set (sister and I got it as a split X-mas present two years ago) and I personally believe Life Of Brian is their best movie but at times, Holy Grail is undeniable...

I'm a huge fan too. Haven't yet broken down and bought the complete Flying Circus DVD set, but I'm sure I eventually will. I think Grail is still their best but Brian and even The Meaning of Life are great.

Has anyone seen "Spamalot" on Broadway yet? I'm going to be in NYC this summer and hope to see it then. For those that haven't heard about it is a musical version of the The Holy Grail. Stars Tim Curry as Arthur, Hank Azaria as Lancelot...can't remember who else is in it. I think I have the wife convinced that it is the show we need to see.

I heard a lot of good things about spamalot. I was planning on getting tickets, but I believe there is quite a waiting list. If your planning on comming up here, you should probably try to get tickets now.

Thumbs up Big MP fan as well.

"Holy Grail " can reduce me to tears at times...

Many, many episodes video taped off the air (mostly the local PBS station) will suffice for my MPFC collection. Also have both their disappointing Anniversary show (hosted by Steve Martin just prior to Graham Chapman's death) and their very good reunion show featuring Graham's "ashes", which were of course spilled on stage. Last little collectable is an off-air "King Bisquit Flour Hour" cassette of their live tour,

So many great bits, e.g., "Ministry of Silly Walks", "The Parrot Sketch", "The Cheese Shoppe", "How Not to be Seen", "The Spanish Inquisition", "The Whizzo Chocolate Company"...

My all-time, personal favorite is "The Argument".
"If I did not pay you, then why are you still arguing?"
"Sometimes I argue on my own time."
    "Oh! This is silly"
    "No it isn't"

Cleese and Palin seemed to be in the middle of most of the magic.

    Thumbs up

My father introduced my brother and I to Monty Python in the 70's. It was the first time I saw boobies on television. Thanks dad! :D

uhoh, i watched first two episodes. not too funny. it was putting me to sleep!

maybe it's been so long since i've seen them that i have to get back into the groove? maybe, like many series, it took time for them to jell? maybe i wasn't in the right mood? maybe i'm getting too crusty? maybe i needed to get lit first? maybe i should have been satisfied to just order holy grail? not even through the first disk,.. 13 to go,.. oh man, i hope this isn't going to be painful.

Holy Grail is phenomenal. One of my favortie memories in high school was in history class and the teacher had us watch the movie for the week, making historical references to different parts of the movie. A very effective way of learning.

Some of the early stuff was pretty bad and even the later years had some clunkers, but also a lot of gold...

    Hang in there...

yeah, i'm not gonna bail. i'm thinking i might need to pick through and find some proven winners first though, and get the momentum rolling in the right direction.
