Default Acura NSX-R vs. 2 Lamborghinis vs. Porsche 911 Turbo vs. BMW M3 vs. Ferrari Modena

Crank up your computer speakers for the roars of those engines. Enjoy....

That was very cool. It was a pleasure watching the BMW M3 hang in there with such supercars. It was all over the Porsche.

Whao....that was awesome. Y'all do realize that was not a normal M3, right? That was the CSL, only available in Europe, much edgier and harder to control (and MUCH more expensive) than our version. There was an article about BMW's CSL versions in the last MT issue, I believe. I may posts some of what it says when I get back from lunch.

Thanks a bunch !! You gotta love that foot work with half the foot on the brake and the other half on the gas. I gotta try that.

Bob Bondurant from Bondurant Racing School who quite frequently tests cars for Motor Trend/is visited by Motor Trend journalists isn't too fond of that technique. In an article in June's edition of MT, MT had Mike Speck from Bob Bondurant Racing flog the 2005 Infiniti G35 6MT, 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, and the 2005 Subaru WRX STI to compare the handling nature of FD, RD and AWD vehicles.

During the test, the MT journalist asks, "Do you ever left-foot brake [massaging both throttle and stop pedal to rotate the car with the rear brakes]?"
'"Nah," says Speck, shrugging. "Not in road racing. I've driven with guys who do, and, frankly, I've usually been faster. Lef-foot braking is helpful for rotating a ground-effect car's chassis without upsetting its aerodynamically critical pitch, but I've never found much advantage in it."'

Does kind of sound cool, though.

In the May issue of Motor Trend, there was an article about the new BMW M3 Competition Package - a souped up, edgier, faster, more responsive version of the M3. To put into perspective how far out there the CSL is, I'll use one of the sentences from the article: The Competition Package feels like the M3 CSL after anger-management therapy.

Needless to say, the BMW M3 CSL is a radical car, far removed from the M3 that us petty Americans can get our hands on. :(

Btw being a Viper fan, I never really respected other cars in its class (vettes are ugly ;)) but that NSX-R seems to really be a cut above! Had it not overheated it may have finished higher, who knows! Dont those little MidEngine cars only have 300 odd horses?

for how much cheaper, that NSX-R sure was a bad boy! lead until the final lap by a long shot. Plus, if it didn't overheat at the end, he would've took third. GO HONDA!

i was most impressed by the Acura NSX.

anyone who judges on what makes a sports car a sports car by simply looking at horsepower ratings- then they know nothing about what constitutues real sportcar performance.

I'll put a 290 hp. NSX over a 335 hp Camaro on any road: straight or curve: day or night.

hell as a matter of fact, i'll put up my old '93 rx7 255 hp againist any stock camaro ever made.

So true. HP has NOTHING to do with that wicked handling. My earlier comment is just that its amazing considering those Lambos have so much power under the hood and have/should have just as good handling ability.

oh i know. I'm just tired of people that think performance is straight line only.

those lambos are awesome. in fact- when a modena, 911 turbo and m3 get last place- you know that every car in that lineup is so awesome to the point of sick.

Very true. I was also very impressed with the NSX's performance. However, since it did overheat, that kinda tells ya it's not meant to handle that kind of driving. I also think the driver had a lot to do with the NSX enjoying the lead for so long.

'Vettes are ugly?! ;) I must agree that the new C6 has lost something in the asthetics department, but I think the other 'Vettes look just fine. I can't wait 'til the new C6 Z06 with the LS7 comes out - that'll be wicked!! :D :D :D :D ;) :p :D :D

actually i like the c6 alot. it's the only vette i've EVER liked or would consider buying. It seems the most European in design and in terms of power to weight ratio- and in terms of handling and suspension.

the c5 was too long and looked clumsy- and mazda should have sued Chevy for having blatantly copied a nose-design that wreaks of the 3rd generation rx-7- and even then the rx still looks better- even by today's standards.

I think the c6 looks more aggressive and looks more taught- the part of a 2 seater.

also of note - it's nice to see that the vette's interior has graduated passed Cavalier in terms of quality and ergonomics.
With the c6- it seems to have approached Buick standard- again- not impressive for a 50 grand car but not TOO shabby either.

    imo

LOL I'm glad you put 'imo'....lol

For starters, I'm pretty sure you can get one for under 50k. Second of all.....you think it's pretty?!?! Man...you need to get your eyes checked..LOL. The C5 is by far the prettiest (looks far better than an RX-7), followed closely by the 70's StingRays and then the C4. Though, the C6 is growing on me.

    imo

And it was clumsy. I've driven several C5's and they are by far the most overrated cars I have come across. The Z06 was a little different but it isn't what it is made out to be either. Very overrated, both of them.

    audiobliss- i can't wait for the z06 c6 either. i think it's going to be a 7.0 ltr (?) with 500hp? that's what i heard anyway.

that's just crazy. It's safe to say for the money the z06 will be the best performance you can buy for stock $.- much like today's c6 is.
and yeah- you're right- it starts at $45- msrp- but they're not selling for that- the dealers have them closer to $50 grand to start.

sami - I hate to hear that; I hadn't heard it before. You mean it just feels like a slouch in the turns? Like, too much body roll? At least the C6 is awesome!

    aaharvel - Yep!! 7.0L with 500hp and 500lb-ft (I think); it's going to be WICKED!! :D :D

I can't wait 'til it comes out and some Chevy fans can start blowin' Vipers off the road! :D :D :D :D
