Very talented kid, looks like he's been working hard on his chops. I'm not sure how the rest of the show went, but I just saw a bunch of kids (also known as "band members") standing around one person playing, and I was getting bored after the first minute. Again, the kid's got skills, but he's got a lot to learn about working with a band rather than standing in the middle soloing the whole time.

My brother is a drummer and I go over there and practice when I have time.
He just recently converted his 1968 Ludwig Standard (tiger stripe baby!) set into a triggered set hooked up to a Roland TD10. He DiYed all the triggers with piezos from Radio Shack and bought the mesh heads from an internet store. For the cables he made custom length 1/4" mic cable. It sounds astonishing to say the least! He can change his snare drum to be like 24" deep on the fly, as well as play any of the 100 sets premade in the Roland's memory. If I had the money I would put together one just to goof around on.
I learned how to play listening to Dave Lombardo of Slayer. Still think he rules. He sat in on Testaments "The Gathering" and made that album in my opinion.Originally posted by Polkmaniac

I also dig Scott Rockenfield of the band formerly known as Queensryche. Empire and especially Mindcrime are works of art.
Shannon Larkin is now with Godsmack and is so-so but back in the 80's he played with Wrathchild America and was simply unbelievable! Hes got riffs on those 2 albums Im still trying to figure out!
Lars Ulrich before Bob Rock killed him!
Kirk Arington of Metal Church has a great style too. I learned a lot from him.
Overall tho, its MP and Lombardo. If you heard me play when I have my chops (I havent played in 2 years) you would think I sounded like a mix of these two. I play very heavy and fast like Lombardo but do lots of quads and technical fills like MP....just not as good as either of those two! ;)
And of course I only play Tama! Although Ive always thought if I got another set if would be a Pearl. Ive always thought they had a nice meaty sound to em.

Yeah I think it was supposed to be like that.... I'm SURE there is a point behind the solo performance in the video... maybe to show off?Originally posted by jarros

No kidding.
Virtually every band has a solo performance of one member at least in a show.
Theres nothing wrong with it as long as the guys good.

Yeah, I guess I was initially looking at it as a whole performance rather than just a small part of it. The kid is good, no doubt, but I just thought a 3min solo was a bit much. Gotta spread it around for other songs, too. Like I said, I didn't see the whole show, so I guess I can't really judge it.Originally posted by MacLeod
