Default I made the ultimate sacrifice

I had to replace my RTi12's with Infinity RS2000.6 speakers today. We got a kitten for my 2 and 1 year old children this week. I got home from work today and found the 8 week old kitten climbing up the grills of my RTi12's in my family room. The cat cannot have the front claws removed until it is 6 months old. I put the Polk's in storage an decided to sacrifice the Infinity's. I told the family that the cat is not allowed in the basement to destroy my RT5000 system. I actually like the kitten, but was ready to kill it today! Does anyone know a way to stop the kitten from climbing on my speakers?

Shhhhhhhh. There are cat people on this forum. Simply the mention of declawing will open the flood gates.:D

I have 2 adult male cats in my house and before the declaw, they simply shredded everything. Now they just stretch their paws, safely. They are both totally indoor cats and are never allowed outside, so they have no need for defense. Besides, when I play with them a little rough, I don't get torn up as bad.

Some here have used training the cat to stay off their stuff using a spray bottle of water each time they reach for the speakers. Others have put down mats in front of their systems that have the little spikes sticking up on them to deter the cats. Anything that works for you is better than nothing.

Rock the system and have your kitten be an outdoor cat.

There is a chemical from Hertz pet products called NO!. If you get that and spray it around the base of the speaker, it should deter the little runt from trying to play cliffhanger.
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you!

Electric fence. Wrap the speaker with electric fence wire and let the cat have it a couple of times this will teach it.
Or make it an out door kitty. They have more fun anyway......really. :D

Our cats have a scratching post they use all the time. One of them is older and taught the younger one, which mostly worked.

If the younger cat scratched on something, we grabbed her and said no, swatted her butt, then took her to the post.

I never saw ANYTHING on the speakers, or we wouldn't have ANY cats...

Do NOT use NO!, especially if it's a boy cat.

They don't like the smell of it, thats for sure - but the result will be him spraying to get RID of the NO! smell.

    Water pistols work great.

You made the right decision Warlocks. I had 2 cats, they never touched any of my furniture but loved my speakers!

I had both of them declawed. That way we all lived happily ever after.

Needless to say they were indoor cats all the way. I'm not a believer of letting any cat out to wander the streets, claws or not.

When the boo boo gets of age, have it declawed then you can bring your Polks back out!

Those are neat but not worth fooling with, we had the vet put a set on one time and within a week the little bugger had all of them pulled off and was right back at it. Either declaw or use the water gun training method. Just my 2cw.

Some people are just stupid & evil. One day it will come back to bite them in the ass!

No doubt one day he might turn the gun on his wife.

If shooting a defenseless cat makes you feel like a big man, than you're not much of a man at all.

my cat MS. CLEO has decided that speaker grills are not interesting, why?? Cant say, but she never touches them or the furniture, she is defintely an outside type cat, who knows how to work room (and people) when she wants. How would just removing the grills for a time work?? Anybody ever just tried that??

The saddest thing I've seen with cats is that I sold some of my old furniture to a friend of mine. Her 3 (now only 2...ran away, no involvement by me) cats have literally shredded every side of that furniture as possible.

Every time I go over there and see that, I wanna swat those effin cats. Had I known that the furniture was going to be blatantly abused, I'd have looked for another home for the stuff.

simply feed him cheap catfood, he'll get so bloated that he'll be too lazy to climb speakers. All he'll do is eat, **** and sleep.

Cats have an in grown instinct to sharpen thier claws. It's as natural & normal as breathing or hunting. It is also how they shed the skin off of the claws so that the new ones that has grown can emerge.

You can't train it out of them or stop them from doing it. Knowing that, you can either make the decision to get a cat or not to. If you do, you make plans on how to deal with thier natural instincts.

The most effective way is to have thier front claws removed. It does not stop them from doing anything that they want to do, not does it stop them from sharpening thier non existant claws.

But that means that you must be even more responsible & make sure that the cat never gets outside. Or if you get another cat, you must also get that one declawed as well.

Pets are a gift and a great responsibility, and you should learn everything you can about them before you acquire one. If you are not willing to make that effort & commitment, than don't get one.
