dented tweeter domes

I just got my RT55's and both the tweeter domes are pushed in.
Will this affect the sound?
I think I can get them out again but I want to know if they should be replaced?

didn't someone say you can try a wine bottle vacuum?

What I did on an old pair was I took the smallest needle I could find and gently pierced the material and pull out the dent.

If they remain pushed in it will affect the sound. If they're badly dented, they may need to be replaced (which would be unfortunate, since I don't believe the tri-lams are available from Polk anymore -- the replacements are silk I think).

If they're not too bad, you might have some luck pulling them back out with tape. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It takes some pretty sticky tape to hold tightly enough. Some people say you can pull them back out with a vacuum cleaner-- I've never tried it. A small vacuum without a huge amount of suction, might be the way to go if you try that.

Once pulled out, they should be okay. My 800i's tweeters were pushed in when I received them - long story- due to packaging. They both popped back out on their own, but one of them had a visible crease. Ken S told me that if they popped back out, they should be fine sound-wise. They replaced the one that had the crease, but the other one seems fine to me.

Were they pushed in by fingers or by packaging?

I get the feeling it was done during packing, I am going to try a small vacuum pump to see if they will come out easy.

I used a vacuum cleaner on a pr of rti38 tweeters. They were display model, so no telling how long they were pushed in. Now you can not tell they were ever pushed. No effect to the sound of the speaker.

I used a vacuum to pull out the dust cover on a woofer. I made a tube with my hand and put it over the vacuum so as soon as the woofer sucked out I could break the suction by opening my hand, that way I wouldn't damage anything. Good Luck.

I used the Crevice Attachment (long narrow slot) on my vacuum when I did the tweeters on my rti70s. I gradually covered the tweeter with just enough of the slot to pull the dent out.

What is the fascination with poking dust covers anyway? I could almost understand a child, but when I sold electronics, I used to see grown men poking at them. I guess I was raised by parents that had an appreciation for audio gear.

I think people are somewhat retarded about fragile things like speakers.
I know I did it once when I was younger and learned my lesson.

Thanks for all the input, I was mailny worried about the sound quality after they are popped back out but I guess I will have to see.

No I was just soooooo happy to have them I just couldn't keep from kissing them. Then I just thought "What the heck, no one will know" and the rest is history.:D

so what base is that in speaker terms? is a kiss first base? LOL and a carress like second? Man steve you were about to go all the way is she let ya..:D so lets say a kiss wasnt that bad at this point..
