    Default NOAA is on CRACK!

This kind of crap can get people killed!

When I looked at the site earlier, "Partly Cloudy", then my alert went off...... "Severe Thunderstorm Watch". Then a couple hours later, "Severe Thunderstorm Warning".

Apparently I should ignore the quarter size hail falling because it's going to be a beautiful night!

Do you think 80mph winds count as "Breezy"?

The weather here changes so much, you really have to keep up with it. There's a reason it's called tornado alley. You may well get caught up in one if you're not careful.

I just found it funny that we're in a severe thunderstorm warning and the forecast calls for "partly cloudy".

Sounds about like the weather in St. Louis the last few days. Sunny, rainy, sunny, deluge, sunny, monsoon....

    It's on monsoon mode now.

As an amateur astronomer, I can tell you that terms like 'partly cloudy', 'fair', and 'mostly clear' tell you almost nothing. Partly cloudy can mean no stars visible, or a nearly clear view. I can't remember how far south the maps extend, but for those who are looking for predictions about REAL sky viewing constions, try visiting Attila Denko's clear sky clocks web site: www.cleardarksky.com. Denko raids the Canadian govmt weather models to get predictions of cloud cover, temp, etc. Even if you aren't interested in astronomy, it's very interesting to look at the forecast models on his web site. In my experience, his predictions are at least 80% correct for a 24 hr time frame, which is the best I've found so far.

    Cheers, Jim Shearer

yeah, luckily I think it's going to be done for a while. Kinda nice to have a few nice days while being off work but I do enjoy a thunderstorm with the best of 'em.

Now having a tornado a few miles away from your work while you're there... THAT'S fun! Especially driving and looking at all the crap going on. Some wicked colors in the sky and all.... sigh, I'll miss you thunderstorms!!!

Lightbulb If you think weather forecasting is troublesome...

...Try to do weather forecasting for the San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most severe microclimate areas in the world, no contest.

When you have the possibility of going from 60 degrees and fog along the coast to 90 degrees and blazing sun in less than 60 minutes of driving inland during the summer, I wish you lotsa luck trying to do a forecast there!
