    Default Mountain Bike Tours

Since there seem to be a bunch of us that ride often, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for posting pics of those trips.

Today, me and the missus went to the Harrison Bay State Park in Chattanooga. Its a 4.5 mile loop along the edge of the Chicamauga lake. Very nice scenery.

Not very technical. The hardest parts are dodging big ass roots as your climbing hills but its a nice leisurely ride with plenty of shade. We made one lap and then did the second going the opposite way. The first lap has several more hill climbs.

Here are some pics. This is the first resting point. It has a bench set up and a good view of the lake.

This one is the second rest point. This also had a nice shaded bench to chill on. This spot had the best view of the lake.

And this one is just a shot of the trail. Well shaded! It was 88 outside in the parking lot but probably 75 on the trail. Awesome! Screw road biking!! :D

I was bitching about my seat being way to tortuous. Well I went to WalMart (God forgive me) and bought this gel seat cover. I figured it wouldnt be worth a damn but at $13 I figured Id give it a shot.

Man this thing kicks ass! I made it thru 3 hours of bumpy trail and was just as comfy as my couch!!

Anyone looking to upgrade their seat should check one of these things out.

Does your seat have a solid underside or is it open and basically framed around the edges?

Those slip on's are ok as a temp fix, but they'll shift around/wear out fairly quickly.

I'd definitely look into another seat if you're not able to tolerate it after a few rides.

Finally got to ride today. Went to this same place cause its the most scenic. Not only do you get to ride along the edge of the lake for 4.5 miles but you get to see chicks laying out on the decks of their boats!

This is the first time Ive been out in nearly 2 months! I was sick a while back then it was either extremely hot or raining. Today was 92 degrees but I was sick of looking at my bike and not being able to ride it and cruising around the parking lot or down some side streets wasnt gonna cut it.

Went by myself and had a really good ride. Made 3 laps on this 4.5 mile loop and wore myself out. I love this trail but Im starting to get bored with it so I think Ill try something a little harder next time I go by myself.

Even went by a car wash and sprayed off the mud and dirt, cleaned off the chain and sprockets and then lubed them back up so Im good as new for the next time.

Its amazing how therapeutic mountain biking is. You work your ass off but its more relaxing than then lying aruond the house.

tires have about 265 miles on them. I think the pic makes it look bald but it's actually in really good shape.

Once my tires wear out Im going to get an all terain tread. 75% of my riding is on trails but I do like to road ride as well. Chattanoog has plenty of parks to ride in and my current tread is very knobby and I dont want to have em sliding out from under me the first time I lean into a turn!

I heard the Tioga White tiger tires are excellent for agressive dirt riding.WBT raptors are also suppost to be very good.
A guy we ride with installed the WBT Raptors on his bike ( a Klien) and he loves em.
I forget what tires he had before.....

Thats what Im running now, Velociraptor. They dig like a mutha! I dont think Ive spun up a hill yet! Theyre a bit noisey and bumpy on the road though.

I use Tioga Factory Extreme and they are also noisy on the road. In the mud and rain, they slip quite a bit. I'm thinking I should have lowered my tire pressure a bit.
I find the Extreme Factory tires to be all right I guess. I'm gonna try the White tigers next.

There is a certain freedom felt when riding in the rain. I can't explain it but it's something I felt on my last ride out. I was concerned about slipping over the logs and crashing but a peace came over me.

    My experience.

Got to go out today. Went 3 laps on my favorite trail at a little over 4.5 miles each loop. If you run it clockwise you get a lot more hills and its a good bit harder than running counterclockwise so Ill run CW 1st and last and then CCW on the second and I ran the last lap at a good clip and it flat out kicked my ass! I was wore out and my legs were as wasted as they are after a good squat workout! Gotta get the riding in while I can. Only got a couple months left before it turns cold.

I would have liked to go out today but the other guys weren't quite into it. Also it was 7 degrees outside plus the rain (around 45 for you non canadians :p) so we saved the riding for tomorrow morning. I love the rain but yea it can get pretty sketchy when you hit a root or log.

7 Degrees? ..guess it wouldnt be too bad once a guy got moving and warmed up.

I havent ridden it 15-20 years and the bikes are so cool now I am thinking about it again. Living near the city there are paved trails and streets not nice wooded area's like some of you guy's have access to. I have been chatting with the bike shop guys and they know of some places within 5 minutes of my house. :D
The technology used in bicycles now days blows me away! Disc brakes and with hydraulic fluid! Carbon fiber and other lightweight metals and the huge choice of tire patterns.

I like your bike pictures guys!

    All in all........cool stuff!

Well I finally got back from Whistler today. We went for a three hour ride this morning. Holy crap I had no idea I was in that bad of shape. After a while of climbing hills I was diying. We mainly did this race course, which is a single track beginner trail. If it weren't for the climbing I would have been able to do a bit harder stuff but at some points I just couldn't get my bike up because I was simply too tired. I also found out something... it wasn't very hot outside but after wearing a full face helmet for a few hours it gets pretty damn hot. I liked the really steep downhill parts where you are on your brakes the whole time but still booking down the hill with trees inches from your handlebars on both sides. There was only one point in the ride where I really thought I was going to bail but I managed to stop before it got nasty. I was going down a steep rockface but it was covered in mud, which made it super slick and my bike just went out from under me. All in all it was a good ride and definatly something new.

btw I didn't have any room in my camel back thing (aka. hydro-nipple) for the camera so sorry but not biking shots. Here are some pictures of the lake that the trail was around as well as the one the house is on. Pictures were taken from the patio on day 2 and 3 of the trip. In the day the water just glows this brilliant green / turquoise color because of all the silt from the glaciers.

Thanks. I really enjoyed the view there. It's really cool being so used to seeing lakes that are a dark blue then looking at this one that just glows bright green / turquoise. It's just too bad the pictures don't do the water justice at all. fyi that is the neighbours house, and I agree... some seriously nice houses up there. If I ever become a multi millionare I might think about moving up there.

    Man, those are breathtaking!

While I really enjoy road riding, you just cant see things like that unless you venture up some trails.

Another good place is San Antonio. It's really mild if you're starting off. And then there's also Santa Teresa County Park. That's a nice trail! By the way, anyone hapen to have a Santa Cruz Frame bike?
