Horizontally Mounting Surround Speakers

Has anyone tried mounting their surround speakers horizontally versus vertically? I have very limited space between the crown molding and a sliding door to mount speakers; I was thinking of mounting my F/X series surrounds on their side, one speaker towards the ceiling, the other towards the floor. Any thoughts?

Mounting them that way they will not perfrom the way they where designed. I wouldn't do it.

Maybe you should return them and get inwalls or inceilings. This is the very best way to get surround in difficult places. Using Bi polar/Dipolar speakers incorrectly usually turns into a mess.

I agree with Dan.

Dipole speakers work best when they are positioned directly to the sides of, and slightly above the listeners. This arrangement puts the listeners in the speaker's null creating the diffuse sound that dipoles are noted for. With them positioned high over a door and on their side, it's unlikely that it would be possible for the listeners to be seated in the null and the sound would be compromised.
