Bring back the BLUE woofers for RTI's!

for the 2007's i hope they reinstate the blue. It also makes the speaker more expensive looking.

I don't know about the blue woofers looking better than the grey/silver ones. The new rti's have a grey face so the woofers match the face and I think they look really sharp. I have owned the rti 25, rti 38, and rti-55 and while I like the blue woofers I think that blue is used to separate the lsi's from the rti's now..
So all together now, go grey !!!

that's a good point. it's not really the style more than it's just color preference. Grey prob. would look better on the recent ones b/c of the grey that surrounds the grille.

Nothing is stupid on this forum.... Especially what I say :)... No really I believe the rti's look better than the lsi's.
The sandwich sides on the lsi's and the older base with the downward port just look slightly odd, the rti's are sleek!!!

I think both look great- however I think the LSI's has it on looks. Finish, dimensions, everything but the grill. The Rti's floating grill is the only thing missing on the LSI.

I really dig the blue woofers on my RTi70's, they should bring that look back. It really set them apart from all the run-of-the-mill black or silver woofer brands on the market. Kinda like Klipsch with their orange/rust colored woofers.

Those floating grills are so freaking ugly its not even funny. Who in the heck wants plastic lattice throughout their grill?????

Not to mention all the reflection points that would cause. Just wow. No way.

I know I dont. No thanks folks. Give me solid plastic in un-used spots and open on the regular. Lets bring back the anti-diffraction baffle.

Not to mention those floating grills let dust get all up in your drivers. Bleh.

WTF is the latticework for, anyways? It would have to screw up imaging, wouldn't it?

There has to be a better way of maintaining the structural integrity than that. I mean they've been doing it without the lattice for decades, huh.

Well, before - there was an actual frame with depth. These new grills are thin, and have no real structural frame.

However - I think if you would add braces in the lower section where the subs and nothing is at... - would be better, IMO.

I dunno, the whole design seems flawed to me. But Polk knows better than me.

JM lab does the same latice work except for around the tweeter. Apparently it isn't as bad as you think.

I dunno, but the lattice work brings back memories of the 70's Pioneer endtable speakers.

It wouldnt bother the midbass as much as the tweeter.

Here is a picture COF at S&V drew...


As you can see, there are tons of reflections even without the lattice. Adding the lattice would add all kinds of reflections around the tweeter. Which would explain why JM Lab didnt put it around the tweeter.

I like the way the LSi grills are designed with supports going in between where the speakers are. I prefer the non-floating grills too because of the dust thing as well as I think that when they are so close to the speaker it makes it look like part of the speaker not as if it were something that is in the way. It just flows with the speaker more...

As for cones either blue or black is good with me. I really don't like silver or gray when it comes to audio stuff. (unless its brushed aluminum electronics or something like that)

The new grills replace the anti-diffraction grills.

Before, they had a baffle that had a grill fit around it - that had the grill act as the front of the speaker basically...

This time around, they went to the lattice type grills, where the grills dont touch the ends. This removes the reflection off the side of the grill frame (diffraction).

I do find the tweeter on the new rti's to be smoother and more detailed than the tri-lam in the older series... I also found that baffle on the older rti's to be strange and ugly looking.

I am completly oposite of you..... I prefer the tweeter of the older rti line than the new ones. I think the new ones are a little on the brighter side of things, I think that is what you are confusing with more detail.

Also i like the baffle, probaby because i really dislike the new floating grills.

Over all i think the new rti series just look kind of cheapy, that dumb grey plastic piece that goes around the outside of grill,, ackk..

The new RTi line looks like it went through Pimp My Ride.

They should include SPINNER spikes, and maybe put some neon lights under em.

The new RTi series, sound wise is on par with the older series [Tri-Lam]. Possibly as good as the FIRST RT series.

So what do you do when the past two series have just been ugly?

This series has the silver, plastic front and spikes. Yuck.

The old series had the ugly, cheap looking veneer and foam looking grills.

The best looking series of RTi have been the RT35i, RT35.

Do you really think a silver front with blue woofers would look good? hmmm

However, I will admit the older series was more appealing than the current ones. Except the veneer. That old veneer was terrible. It had no grain, and no real defined color. It was like purple black or something. Wasnt to fond of the grill cloth either ;)

The current series, would look better if it didnt have the silver. The veneer on the new series is the best looking veneer Polk has ever used in the RTi series.

I haven't seen the series before mine in person, but the pictures look good to me. I just prefer black speakers, and components for that matter. I love the way the grill sets flush on my 70's. I dont like the silver/grey parts on the new line at all. Plus I dont see how those floating grills keep ANY dust off the drivers. As far as the veneer goes, I like it. It could be flat or highly polished, either works for me. I'm not a big fan of cherry, but I think polk should at least offer different types of veneer finishes on the new line even if they have to be special order. Having big ass speakers is great, having big ass speakers that match your homes decor: Priceless!
