Thumbs up The Godfather of British Blues

After being a fan for the better part of four decades, I'm finally getting a chance to catch a live gig by John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. We were fortunate enough to get front stage table seating in this excellent, small venue (approx. 200 seats, no standing room, no kids - 21+) -- thanks to a "heads up" email from John's wife. As Russman puts it "I feel like a fat kid with a cupcake"!

Limited seating is still available for anyone interested in the Balt/Wash corridor, or traveling to the area.

    Default Hangin' With The Bluesbreakers

Our concert date at the Ram's Head Tavern turned out way cooler than we could imagine. I met Hank Van Sickle, the bass player for the group, before the concert and he hooked us up backstage and onstage after the gig to meet the band and John Mayall. A great performance and a great time afterwards!

Ms. Hottie is my charming wife, Sandy. She was absolutely thrilled when Buddy handed her the new Tele while Hank Van Sickle snapped a few shots with her new camera. John and the band are so down to earth that you feel like you've known them forever. The performance was outstanding. Buddy and the band did a spectacular cover of "Crosscut Saw" to open and they did his, now famous, cover/medley of "Hideaway" that has to have Freddie King grinnin' down from guitar heaven every time it's done.

We're off to Blues, Brews and BBQs next weekend at Snowshoe Mountain, WV then back to Ram's Head the following weekend to catch Daniella Cotton and some more hot blues.

Wish we could. This year, as last in Charleston, it falls on the weekend of our anniversary--and, we always do a getaway of some sort for the occasion. I trust everyone will have a great time at the Fest!

Oh yeah, you had told me that already. I just forgot it was next weekend, thought it was this weekend. :o

Again, congrats on the anniversary. How many years, again?? The wife and I are going on 14 this November 30th.

    Blue,

Looks like a great time. Thanks for sharing. Isn't it great when a "famous" person can be so down to earth and approachable. I've had a few similar encounters and it makes the whole musical experience that much more enjoyable. I mean, John Mayall is one of the greats. :)

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Thanks to Hank Van Sickle, we scored 3rd row, orchestra pit seats at the Center for Performing Arts - George Mason University for the "Rockin' Blues Review" on Nov.11. Mayall has Eric Bibb and Robben Ford on board for this tour. Can't wait!
