Default FS Alpine Cda 7897 Head unit

Im selling an Alpine CDA-7897 "Fantom face" security CD/MP3 Player. I have used this for about 11 months in my Jeep Grand Cherokee and I bought a new head unit so I am not going to use this one any more. Comes w/ Remote. It has an extremely unique security feature: when you shut off the car's ignition, the unit automatically rotates and slides the face inside the dash. You don't have to remove the faceplate and it appears as if there is no unit installed in the car at all. After you start the car up again, out the face slides and rotates again. Not only is this a security measure, but it allows for a unit face that is much larger than standard receivers Details: FantomFace XL motorized stealth faceplate MaxTune SQ tuner plays MP3 files on CD-R and CD-RW, plus audio CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs MOSFET50 internal amp XM Satellite Radio controls (xm ready). Bass Engine Pro (5-band parametric EQ, 6-channel time correction, 6-position crossover with variable slope, plus subwoofer phase and level controls) Media Xpander CD changer controls for Alpine Ai-NET changers only optional auxiliary input 4-volt front/rear/subwoofer preamp outputs clock wireless remote 20 watts RMS/50 watts peak x 4 channels CD frequency response 5-20,000 Hz CD signal-to-noise ratio 105 dB FM sensitivity 9.3 dBf. You can also hook a hands free car phone to it and dial from the head unit. The head unit is in very good condition. If you would like pictures please pm me your e mail adress and i will send them to you asap. It retails for around 600 I am looking for around $450 + shipping. But I will entertain offers. Thanks

that's a definitely nice radio but you won't get anyone to buy it at 450 + shipping. Good luck though. Suckers are all over the 'Net.

Man...I love that HU. There probably isn't one I'd rather have. I've always drooled over pictures of that HU.

$200 shipped and I'll take it. But you need to post it on eBay so it's more legal.

You should go over to ebay since you can get $350 there. The recent ebay average for "used & working" is only $273 + shipping so remember to add a $75 packaging and handling fee.

They take offense here at people joining just to sell something, not suprising at all.

And then, when you ask $175 more than you KNOW it goes for on ebay, don't expect a friendly welcome.

Just to derail this thread, from looking at his screen name, I would think he owns a 2005 Mitsubishi Evolution. Just a hunch. You know, his initials + evo + 05. :p

Hell, what do I know, I'm one the the idiots that frequents this club.

Cool hu but my friend bought one and has had nothing but problems with it... He has gone through about three. They just keep fritzing out and skipping.

Staying on topic here.... coevo05, just so you know or have found out this is not the place to sell off gear and try and get as much as possible for it. This is a forum designed for people to chat about audio stuff. It does have a flea market section but that used more to offer good / discounted deals to friends around here before jacking up the price and putting it on ebay.

btw if you have had it for almost a year now taking 25% off "retail" isn't nearly enough to make a fair deal...

michael_w Very interesting; I hadn't heard that before. (Not doubting you; I've never heard any personal experience about this HU.) Disappointing.

He must have bought it about a year ago and has only had it installed for around three of those twelve months since he has to keep sending it in to get repaired. A&B Sound isn't being very helpful about it either.... they send it out for repair on the warranty, get it back and it fritzs out in short order. Then the same process over again.

One thing I have wondered about this deck is that wouldn't it be a big target for car theives since it is both expensive and doesn't have a replacable faceplate, therefore can be used in a different car without having to get a faceplate to match? I realize it folds in and looks fairly safe and tucked away but it doesn't take an expert to identify it as an expensive alpine waiting to be stolen.
