    Default A Major Find

I stumbled upon a two disc DVD set of the entire second season of the old tv show, "Combat" starring Vic Morrow. I am happy as a pig in ****. I am now hopeful that I can someday nail down the old tv show "12 O'Clock High" starring James Lansing as General Frank Savage, B-17 driver.

I watched Combat when I was a kid, and again recently on reruns. I was impressed by its always underlying portrayal of humanity always winning over the inhumanity of war. Neat series.

That's what made it a great show. Saunders with the Thompson .45 cal machine gun was kind of cool too. Nice to find somebody else that enjoyed that show.

Combat, cool show. I remember Curby, Little John, Cage, Doc, Lt. Hanley and good old Sgt. Sanders.

I used to watch Combat as a kid with my dad; too bad they don't make series like those any more......

I also liked the unusual (at that time) camera angles, the extra drama really made you think and understand what emotion the director was highlighting. Watching the show now makes you realize what a fast-paced ADD society we’re become. Combat’s lingering camera shots allowed the actors to really show the story without the rapid fire images hiding today’s thin dialog and storyline drivel.

Good news - you can get a number of the seasons on dvd. Read about it here. ;)

You can find where to purchase it by looking at DVD Price Search and putting in the words "combat season" (without the quotes) and doing a search.

    Have fun.

    Michael

BTW - no mention of "12 O'Clock High" on TV Shows on DVD yet.

Thank you Michael. Whoever said, "You can never go home again", didn't know what they were talking about.

Also got off my ass today and finally ordered the complete "Victory at Sea" set. That was also a big part of my formative years, while eating Wonder bread, helping my body to grow strong 12 ways.

Speaking of sets, I am attempting to aquire the complete collection of Columbo. I have the complete 1st & 2nd season and my understanding is that season 3 was released on August 9th. Columbo, you either hate him or love him.

Good find GG. My brothers and I shot many a "krauts" in the woods behind the house. Plastic helmets and all.

I hear you! Me and Alfred Ercolano peppered all the ones that showed up in Brooklyn too!

    Thread De-Rail Time.....

A new kid moved onto the block, so we beat the **** out of him right off the bat. Couple days later, he comes out of his house with a hatchet, and is making believe that he's going to throw it at one of us standing in front of my house. Alfred came out of his house and was walking towards us from behind the new kid. The idiot accidentally lets the hatchet slip out of his hands on the backswing, and the damn thing lands square in Alfred's head. I'll never forget that, or the sight of his parents GENTLY putting him in the car with the hatchet still in his head, and his head wrapped in a bloody towel. That must've been a helluva long ride for him to Coney Island Hospital. He was out and playing the next day with a wicked headache and a bunch of stitches. Yes of course, the new kid couldn't set foot out of his house without his parents for a month or two, cause we'd beat the **** out of him every time he did. I don't remember that family staying in the neighborhood for long.
