    Default Mac monoblocks

Okay, I have a chance to purchase a pair of McIntosh MC-75s. I believe that's the right model#, but anyway, they are 75 watts each. There are a few cosmetic issues, but they have been gone thru thoroughly and are electronically and sonically fine.

My question is if I can get these for $1000 or so, is that a good, great, or soso deal or too much?? I would have to think that the latter isn't the case.

Come on Bottleheads, whatcha know on these????

    Hi Guy,

I just checked a Bluebook and it says they sold new in 1961 for $230.00 and the going price now is $1130.00.

Are those tube amps or s.s.?

I have no idea how much they sell for in the used market but if the price is right, go for it. Mac gear are highly sought after and you know their value will keep on going up.

I'm fairly familiar with McIntosh, just not their tube gear so much or the values of these particular amps.

I was hoping Russ could chime in here, seeing that he's probably the most up to date about these things.

Well speak of the devil. So you think it's a worthwhile investment?

Keep asking the same thing over and over, it will give me time to find them, and snatch them right out from under you.

Notice no smiley inserted, I'm serious. **** or get off the pot.

    Cheers,

They aren't listed, but if you really want them, I can get you the hook up, as it would still take me a week or so to come up with the $$$.

I'm not sure (audiogon BB) but it sounds like an excellent deal. Those are something to have reworked and brought back to new if necessary in the future.

Well he decided not to sell them. Oh well. I know that soon, he'll "HAVE" to get a truck, so until then. I'll work out some sort of trade for some wholesale unit that I can get for little or nothing.

If you ever get your old McIntosh amps, you will need to have them restored! They may sound great when you get them, however, they will probably be pushing 30 years old and be in need of some serious work. You won't believe how good they can sound after they have been properly restored. I used a company called Circle Stereo, and they did a fantastic job restoring my McIntosh setup, and my Matantz 4400. Buying vintage stereo equipment is like buying a vintage car; it requires upkeep and continued maintenance!!! (It is well worth it).

Office System- Marantz 4400 w/ Polk RTi4 mains.
